The distance - single edit?

Single edit? What the **** is that? Another great idea: to cut some parts out of this song. Probably after the cut song AGAIN is not as good as on CD.

What is going on with them. Is it so hard to release the song just as it is on CD.

The "single edit" is exactly the same length as the album version.

Edit doesn't always mean trimming parts of the song, adding a fade out. Sometimes it's tinkering with the mix so it's more radio friendly, raising and lowering certain instruments so it plays better on rock stations vs adult contemporary.

I asked about this a while ago and I believe someone said that it was originally pressed with the album version by mistake and later pressings had the correct edit on. Don't know how true that is, my version is the same length of the album and sounds exactly the same to my ears...

And where will we be able to find this "correct edit"?
Don't mean to be rude I'm actually curious.

Like I said, it's apprently on the second pressing. As I also said, I don't have it. So, I've no idea how you'd differentiate between the two pressings...sorry...I'm just passing the info on that I was previously told...

I'll see if I can find it.

Aloha !

Radio edits are done because your average radio listener isn't willing to listen to a song of 5 minutes. 3:45 has been deemed the ideal length of a single on the radio and Bon Jovi carefully builds a lot of its songs around that songlength. A longer song on the radio often means people get bored of it and switch channels, thus radio channels losing advertising income.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you will. The edit only appears on a few advanced copies of the CD single. There weren't many of them in circulation back then and advance copies rarely show up on eBay. I couldn't find any of them when I was in Japan either. I've no idea how much of a collector you are but it's the one with the purple sticker on the back cover.

I think it's been 10 years since I've listened to it but I believe the the edit has no repetition of the chorus in the end and the fade out shows up sooner. I think it's running time is something like 3:25 but it's been ages since I listened to it. As far as I'm concerned this song couldn't last short enough with it's whiny chorus and overproduced crunchy Creed-like guitars.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Both The Distance and Love Me Back To Life for sure borrowed stylistically from Creed's My Sacrifice.

The rhythm and harmonies (including the choice of "disonant" notes going from the chorus into the second verse) are pretty spot on, and the muddy production is too. Oh boy. As if The Distance wasn't meh enough.
