To me, the song is about a bitter divorce. Specifically, the wife took everything and left him alone (tell the neighbors all my feelings, go on and give away my pride; keep your rolodex of friends and all the remnants can be mine; no happy endings when once upon is due in time)

I love this song so much and have done so since HAND came out. However recently it has brought on a whole new meaning to me. My fiancee recentley broke off our engagment and I feel exactly the same way as the lyric. "I tell myself I feel no pain, but I'm feeling the pain...I've changed my name to Novacaine"...
