I think the album could be released in 2021 but it should still be called 2020. Jon could add some songs about this interesting year. It could be a double disc with material that was supposed to be released + songs describing what is happening now. Covid, the murder of Georg Floyd, creating anti-racist actions, crimes (thefts, beatings of older people) in the name of the fight against racism, elections, vaccines, etc. There are and there will probably be many subjects for inspiration. This album could be a look back at what happened in 2020.

2020 is a terrible year.

2020 is gonna be remembered for Covid-19, marches on racial injustice, riots and a messy election. And that's just my prediction at the halfway point. Bon Jovi are not a band that could tackle these subject in a manner that would play to their strengths. Yes, Keep The Faith was the band's reaction to the '91 LA Riots, but really, who is even aware of that?
And how cynical would Jon's "ain't it a beautiful world" and "remember that you're perfect, God makes no mistakes" lines seem in the context of the current situation? IMO, the record needs a new title. I am aware that there are gonna be some political songs on it, and who knows, JBJ might be able to write his best lyrics ever and live up to the task, but even then, a record with the title "2020" that flat out covers none of the aforementioned points would be hella weird. |
I agree with the above. If you're going to to write a socially conscious album, you need to put it out within six months...
This might be the longest gap in Jon Bon Jovi history between new studio albums. Even between '95 and '00 we got DA in '97. It'll be 4 years without any new albums from Jon. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using Tapatalk |
Seriously, who needs breaking news set to music? If I want to read about political stuff, I'll just turn the TV on. Music is about taking you to another world so you could have some rest and forget about everyday worries. I don't need Jon making commentaries about stuff I can read about every fkn day. Just no.

He's not stupid enough to name check anything, he never really has though. It'll be written from a universal place where "lost in the rubble" could be 9/11-based OR personal independence blah blah blah. Do What You Can i think will be the closest it will get to being impossible to be about anything else.
Keep the faith = LA Riots Bounce = 9/11 Always = a movie soundtrack Happy Now = Obama's in office But you'd never really know if we didn't read interviews (barring a few key lines on Bounce I think) |

Matt 100% agree. Not sure anyone that has followed the band would think he'd do a 180 on what he normally does in regard to keeping lyrics to a somewhat universal theme. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Though Unbroken just.....cannot be taken any other way then face value. Limitless could be about anything you want it to but Unbroken is so direct. There could be more songs like it on the album but it'd go pretty off brand for the songs Jon puts out.
