I suppose one needs a proper (but not necessarily super professional or complex) sound editing software, in order to really amplify these mp3s/wavs. The process is also called "normalization" in the respective software.

MP3Gain isn't a platform where you can listen to the songs, just adjust the volume of the sound. As soon as this is done, the files are louder.
If you just raise them in Audacity and listen there, it's from that platform. But if you want to take it to another device, you'd have to export them and they will be louder as well.
