The best love song (ballad) post 2000 is...
Blind Love.
"Close your eyes love Sleep safe and sound tonight 'cause blind love Is guiding every step I take It's one step less I got to make 'Till I find my way home, try love If there's a patron Saint of blind love, I pray He keeps me on your mind, love With every moment I'm away We're getting closer to the day We'll never have to say goodbye, love" Those lyrics are incredible. The way Jon songs "If there's a patron Saint of blind love" is chilling too. Such an underrated song. |

I looove the lyrics of Into the Echo. One of the more underrated songs in the catalogue IMO. Though I guess that's not a love ballad... kinda
I prefer Real Love over Blind Love. Both are super similar. TYFLM probably gets the title for best post-2000s ballad though. |

Can't list These Arms Are Open All Night here since it was recorded just before the 2000 mark  |

... Luv Can.
Everything he tried to do in all slow post-2000 songs he accomplished there. The energy and strength Amen, Blind Love and Real Loves lacks are there. Also, great lyrics. |
I quite like Room At The End of the World. But me specifically remembering that one might have more to do with the fact that it works very well on an otherwise pretty lame album. Also, it's more about religious imagery than actual love, no? Kinda like a reverse Hallelujah. Or Amen.
Is Blood in the Water a ballad? Is I Am? Bells of Freedom? Man, I even really like Learn To Love. But the only one of these about love is I Am. It's also my favorite out of these. Oh, Postcards From The Wasteland is also a pretty song. But it has a demo-ish quality to the recording, sadly. As far as the big single, big budget stuff goes, yeah, Thank You For Loving Me is the one. Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore is okay I guess, but not quite as good. Have there even been many others? AALY, sure. Not a favorite. Anything else in the classic power ballad mold? I mean, I like Amen. But not better than TYFLM. As for best lyrics and lyrics only, I guess I can't say with authority. Some of the more subdued stuff I never paid too much attention to since the music was rather lame. Luv Can is nice, but that album quickly became Blood In The Water plus bonus tracks to me. |
I apologize for some of the posts that may sound outdated, as I am still recovering from my recent loss. Are there any ballads that you would use to convey the idea of an impossible love?

Kind of a forgotten track but my vote would be for Right Side of Wrong.

Luv Can.
Obviously, I think it’s not even close to Jon’s own personal favorites. But for me, it’s absolutely their best post 2000 song. The lyrics, the melody, the production… you just cannot go wrong. The outro still keeps on giving me the chills every time. I guess they sort of tried the same formula previously on I Will Drive You Home. But with Luv Can, they got the outro idea even further and made it really epic. I got married just three moths before the release of the album. I wish Luv Can could have been our wedding song. (By the time, You Had Me From Hello wasn’t such a bad choice, though[emoji1317]). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
