Track Rankings 2012 - 7800* Fahrenheit
Let's get the ball rolling with this album. It came last in the album rankings, but why? Why don't people like it? Rank the songs in order from favourite to least favourite (you know the rules). You can give a zero to as many songs as you want.
Last time we ranked 7800* was 4 years ago in 2008, and the results were this... 01. Only Lonely [106] 02. The Hardest Part Is The Night [99] 03. The Price Of Love [80] 04. In And Out Of Love [78] 05. Tokyo Road [74] 06. Silent Night [73] 07. Always Run To You [57] 08. King Of The Mountain [56] 09. Secret Dreams [36] 10. (I Don’t Wanna Fall) Into The Fire [35] It would be good to give a few comments on which songs you think are actually good on this album, if any. Has your opinion on the album/songs changed over the years? |
10pt] Always Run To You
9pt] Only Lonely 8pt] The Hardest Part Is The Night 7pt] King Of The Mountain 6pt] Tokyo Road 5pt] In And Out Of Love 4pt] Secret Dreams 3pt] The Price Of Love 2pt] Silent Night 1pt] (I Don’t Wanna Fall) Into The Fire I prefer 7800 to Bon Jovi. And I mentioned in the other thread that I think Always Run To You is one of the most under rated Bon Jovi songs. Killer chorus. I actually enjoy the top 3 songs I've listed. |
(10) Tokyo Road

09. Hardest Part Is The Night 08. Silent Night 07. Always Run To You 06. The Price Of Love 05. In & Out Of Love 04. Tokyo Road 03. King Of The Mountain 02. Secret Dreams 01. (I Don't Wanna Fall) To The Fire I love and enjoy the top 4 of this list, 6 is IMO a very good song; 5 and 4 are good songs and 2 and 1 are aweful songs. |
I only frequently listen to the first 2 songs, and occasionally the next 2. Other than that, a mediocre album.
(10.) Tokyo Road (9.) Only Lonely (8.) The Hardest Part Is The Night (7.) In And Out Of Love (6.) Silent Night (5.) The Price Of Love (4.) Always Run To You (3.) King Of The Mountain (2.) Secret Dreams (1.) (I Don’t Wanna Fall) Into The Fire |
Hardest part is the night
Price of love Secret dreams Run to you Only lonely Tokyo road In and out of love Silent night I don't wanna fall King if the mountain Love this album. Some of the bands best stuff musically. Don't know why people don't like it. I love it. Better than anything released after These Days. |
10pt] Silent Night
9pt] Tokyo Road 8pt] The Hardest Part Is The Night 7pt] Only Lonely 6pt] The Price of Love 5pt] In And Out Of Love 4pt] Always Run To You 3pt] Secret Dreams 2pt] To The Fire 1pt] King of the Mountain I also prefer this album to the debut. Silent Night is brilliant. And the guitar Richie uses on the music video is so freaking beautiful. The top 4 songs are songs that I frequently listen to but the rest are just meh.. I could live without them. |
I like this album. Nothing special but i have great memories with it. I get it for christmas 2001.

10] Only Lonely
09] Tokyo Road 08] The Hardest Part Is The Night 07] In & Out Of Love 06] Silent Night 05] King Of The Mountain 04] To The Fire 03] Always Run To You 02] Price Of Love 01] Secret Dreams This was my first Bon Jovi CD, if not my first CD ever... back in the summer of 1993. I have loved the album ever since, always brings back great memories. It offers some great music and lyrics, it is a very creative album and therefore much better than the a bit bland debut. I wouldn't be a fan if every album would sound like this and it's clear that they were on the search for their sound, but for what it is, I really connect to the album. The top 3 is actually brilliant, and the rest is very solid stuff. The only song I never got into is "Secret Dreams", it's the worst BJ song for me - next to "She Don't Know Me", but that's not self-written. Always liked "King Of The Mountain", cool chorus. Same goes for "Always Run To You" - it's mighty. Towards "Silent Night" I always had ambivalent feelings. Around the same time I got the album I bought the bootleg from Cincinnatti 1987 with that 10 minute version, which I always thought was pretty cool, but the keyboard sound of the album version and the title track (come on, it's a christmas song!) always made it hard for me to take it serious. So when I'm thinking about the BJ ballads, I usually start with "Never Say Goodbye", but "Silent Night" is an overlooked gem. When I'm in the right mood, it's a powerful and really good track. |
10. Only Lonely (though I really started loving it from the '85 live versions)
8. Tokyo Road 7. The Hardest Part Is The Night 6. In And Out Of Love 5. Always Run To You 4. In And Out Of Love 3. Silent Night 2. Secret Dreams 1. (I Don't Wanna Fall) To The Fire 0. King of the Mountain (the only song from the 80's I hate with passion!) No 9 points given away here. I really think the album has some of the best riffs and hooks of BJ - but the "chemistry" just isn't there for me most of the time. And the unnecessary high pitched choruses don't help either. It's an album I really have to be in the mood to listen to. |
10 Only Lonely
9 The Hardest Part Is The Night 8 Silent Night 7 Secret Dreams 6 Always Run To You 5 Price Of Love 4 Tokyo Road 3 In & Out Of Love 00 King Of The Mountain 00 To The Fire Tokyo Road and In & Out of Love are a bit overrated here. |
10. Tokyo Road
9. Only Lonely 8. In And Out Love 0's to all the rest. I've never liked 7800. A vast majority of it sounds like a bad Mötley Crüe xerox record to me. Honestly, Tokyo Road is the only standout track in my mind, and the only one that I think stands up with the rest of the band's output. |
I've always thought Secret Dreams is very underrated. In turn, i've often thought Tokyo Road is insanely overrated. Anyways...

10. The Hardest Part Is The Night
9. Tokyo Road 8. Only Lonely 7. In And Out Of Love 6. Silent Night 5. Secret Dreams 4. Always Run To You 3. Price Of Love 2. (I Don't Wanna Fall) To The Fire 1. King Of The Mountain I actually love every track on this album. I remember getting it just after I got Slippery when I was about 7 years old and wearing my cassette tape out. A straight up, awesome hard rock album that is massively under-appreciated. Compare this to what their peers were doing at the time...this was a cut above. |
10. Only Lonely
9. The Hardest Part Is the Night 8. Tokyo Road 7. Secret Dreams 6. In & Out of Love 5. Silent Night 4. Always Run To You 3. The Price of Love 0. King of the Mountain 0. (I Don't Wanna Fall) To the Fire The tops are high, and the lows are very, very low. (IDWF)TTF and KOTM are among the worst shit I've heard in my entire life. I can't get what they wanted with those songs. But then on the other hand, OL and THPITN are among the best. And as someone mentioned, the melodys on the album are very wellworked but some songs feels a little rashy made. But still a solid 5/10 |
10-Tokyo Road
9-In and out of Love 8-Silent Night 7-The Price Of Love 6-Only Lonely 5-King Of The Mountain 4-Secret Dreams 3-Hardest Part Is The Night 2-Always Run To You 1-(I Don’t Wanna Fall) Into The Fire |
I started liking To the fire and Run to you immensely when I realised how Cyberpunk-esque they are (if anyone is familiar with this scifi subgenre). To the fire is very techno-futuristic in the 80's sense of the word. It's probably the only song on the album where the horrible sound serves the song.
I'm amazed how underrated To the fire is on an album of this caliber. What drags the album down in my opinion is the sound, which is very round and flat. Too much delay, the snare has no punch and in songs like Silent night and Secret dreams the synth-sound is ridiculous. Comparing the sound of this album to Slippery, they're worlds apart. If it has something to do with their instruments and equipment being stolen mid-recording, that I don't know. The other thing is the lack of good lyrics. Most of the songs have no stories, no clever humor, no personality, just cliché rhymes. 10 In & Out of Love 9 Always Run To You 8 (I Don't Wanna Fall) To the Fire 7 The Price of Love 6 Tokyo Road 5 The Hardest Part Is the Night 4 Silent Night 3 Only Lonely 2 Secret Dreams 1 King of the Mountain |
I honestly tried to listen to this album this morning in light of this thread, thought I'd give it a go with an open mind.
It's shite. Utterly terrible. |
10 - The Price Of Love
09 - Secret Dreams 08 - Only Lonely 07 - Tokyo Road 06 - In & Out Of Love 05 - Always Run To You 04 - (I Don't Want To Fall) To The Fire 03 - King Of The Mountain 02 - The Hardest Part Is The Night 01 - Silent Night |
I actually love Fahrenheit (probably because it is still fresh as it is not over played)

10 In & Out
09 Only Lonely 08 Price of Love 07 Secret Dreams 06 Tokyo Road 05 Silent Night 04 Hardest Part 03 To The Fire 02 Always Run To You 00 King Of The Mountain For me, In & Out Of Love is the ultimate hard rock song. No matter how cliched or a bit familiar-sounding (Heaven´s On Fire) it may be. It rocks like no other song. Listen to that riff. That distorted Les Paul sounds amazing. I have spoken. |

My main problem with the first 2 albums (and partially Slippery) is that they are so young sounding. Granted, they were young. They were barely in their 20's. Until they did hit it big, it seems like they were just doing it for the money and the sex.
Don't get me wrong, some songs are great. But the albums are nowhere near as consistent and complete as some of their later albums. |
What I will say about 7800 is that unlike any other Jovi album and I include the debut album is that it sounds very dated.
The debut does have that 80s sound about it but they could release Runaway today (a few touch ups needed) and I think it would be OK. Nothing from 7800 could be released today and the songs are not typical Bon Jovi songs. The drums sound hollow and the vocals sound like JBJ was standing in another room when recording them while in a dustbin (trash can for our American friends!) I like it but can understand why people dont. Its not classic Jovi and it sounds dated but its still a fav for me. |

The main problem I have with it are the verses. They bring the album down. If you took the chorus of (nearly) every track they're actually quite powerful and strong.
I also think that if you speed up the intro riff to Hardest Part is the Night, it's much more catchy and powerful. Kinda like how it was played live (but even faster). |
I like how we're actually discussing the album rather than just voting. Makes it much more interesting.

Poor engineering and producing really bring the sound of the album down. Which is a shame.
|
It's a good 80's album, that sounds old today.
|
The thing that really bothers me most is the production. I gave it a few more listens the last days and it's really so out-dated. So many unnecessary things. I remember Jon said at some point in the 80's: "When I heard the finished mix I couldn't understand what and why they did some of that stuff on the sound controllers afterwards."
On the other hand I liked some of the stuff live, like the '85 version of Silent Night: or Hardest Part Is The Night: They started, for me, to lose the song on the SWW tour though when they played it wayyyy too slow and it became plain boring. |

7800 is actually my favourite band album outside of the big 4 ... anyone with me? Just love that harder edge it's got to it, and the atmosphere created in some of the songs (personally I'm a big fan of the synths in To The Fire and Silent Night). Conversely, I find Tokyo Road to be quite overrated ... am I wrong or is everyone else?! :D
10. Only Lonely 9. Price Of Love 8. Hardest Part Is The Night 7. In & Out Of Love 6. Silent Night 5. To The Fire 4. Tokyo Road 3. Always Run To You 2. King Of The Mountain 1. Secret Dreams |

I still don't get the hatred for this album. I remember when I met Sambora and I got him to sign my copy of 7800 amongst other things and mentioned how much I loved the album and wished they would start playing some of the tracks live. He just looked at me like I was a freak for liking it and smiled. It could also be that I was giggling like a 13 year old girl who just met Justin Bieber.... |
It's not the best album.
But it's actually my second favourite behind 'These Days'...only song I don't like is 'Secret Dreams'. I love this album. |
