My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms

WHat do you think about this song?
I thinks it's one of Bon Jovi's best. It's also probably the darkest Jovi song and it shows one more time how brilliant they can be as songwriters
The lyrics are just brilliant and the guitars do also rock.
I wish they played it more often live even if it changed the atmosphere a bit!

Johannes 02-13-2003 06:11 PM

Oh, seems I am the first one to reply, so "One Of Jovi's Finest" stands at 100 % at the moment  Since These Days is my favourite BJ-album and My Guitar... is one of the best songs on there, there isn't more to say. Awesome song!!!

ktf, Johannes

I go with "One of Jovi's Finest" as well! I love that song to bits. I miss the days when they played it live. The These Days Tour was just their best ever! :) Memories...

jess 02-13-2003 06:16 PM

Soooooo Gooooood ! :D
pretty dark, right, but it's a really good song !

Rune 02-13-2003 06:29 PM

Yeah, it's defenitely one of their best :D

Sambo-Chris 02-13-2003 06:58 PM

It's a really great song and I can imagine that Richie and Jon are in this situation sometimes while writing songs.

Mr Bluesman 02-13-2003 07:43 PM

I love the song, it's very under rated. The song kinda reminds me of Wanted Dead Or Alive in the way that it starts off softer rock but then the solo really kicks it off.

eriK 02-13-2003 08:40 PM

It's a great song! nice lyrics and a very good guitar solo... one of their finest! :)

{_Warrior_} 02-13-2003 11:16 PM

One of Jovi's finest

Just perfect :!:

joviromeo 02-13-2003 11:47 PM

Its a good song, but not one of my favs.

BRILLIANT SONG!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I think it's one of their best songs even though I'm not too wild about These Days in general. My Guitar Lies Bleeding is one of those different songs about something most people don't sing about- the difficulties of songwriting.

ugly_queen_from_mars 02-14-2003 02:35 AM

definately one of the finest! great guitars, great lyrics... just perfect! :)

Mr.Sambo 02-14-2003 03:40 AM

This song is perfect

yomamasofat 02-14-2003 04:22 AM

I think I'm the only one voted for Pure Crap :)
Among all the BJ albums, the only back-to-back songs that can put me to sleep in no time: My Guitar Lies Bleeding followed by Letting You Go.

I don't think this song (or the whole These Days album) is underrated. It didn't sell well in the USA, but I believe it garnered quite a lot of critical acclaim, more than it actually deserved IMHO.

Arash 02-14-2003 08:48 PM

all i can say is its great! there are a lot of senses in it.....

XRds1Bnce16 02-14-2003 09:20 PM

It's a great song, but I wouldn't say one of their best.

Hehe...my mom hates this one.

Shaun 02-15-2003 12:17 AM

its my favorite song on these days

Teemu 02-15-2003 02:00 PM

I really like this song, the lyrics & Richie's awesome guitar solo. Thank you Jon & Richie for writing this great piece of music. :)

i think the song is ok, but it just doensn't fit Bon Jovi. I can take or leave the whole These Days album, because its just not the Bon Jovi I love. I remember in an interview Jon talking about his songs being filled with faith, hope, and love and this album is devoid of that. I know when I write songs its easy to make a songs sound good when you are talking about dark and depressing subject matter. But to make an upbeat, rocking songs like Prayer, Born to be my Baby, Its My Life, ect. sound awesome and not cheesy, to me thats the Genius! Back to MGLBIMA, I really wouldn't want to see it live. It has some cool riffs but it will really be a downer as far as atmosphere. Lets just let it rock!

Bad Medicine 02-15-2003 06:34 PM

I love it, but I don't think it would be a good live song.

you sort of get the feeling nowadays though (at least i do) that Jon and Richie sort of go "i can't write a love song the way i feel today" but at the same time they say, "well, let's just record it anyway, put it on the album, release it as a single and promote it and have it as a mainstay in the set for the next tour"

I don't think Jon and Richie could have written that song today. I think it was just for that time period where they were completely burned out, they were tired of the band, and this song came out true and raw from what t hey were feeling. The ballads are very different on These Days. They're not happy ballads, they're kind of sad and depressing. Even "Hearts Breaking Even", which really isn't a ballad, has a melencholy feel to it.

DevilsSon 02-15-2003 08:33 PM

Something strange happened to me today. So I was listening to These Days and I'm prett far awy from my CD player and then just after Jon says:"but here in my dillusion" i hear a deep voice saying HERE IN MY DELLUSION.And I runt to may cd player and listen to it again but i can't hear it.nd then i put my ear on the speaker and i hear but it's very silently spoken.Did you notice that. And I don't understand how I could hear it from the kitchen. It's unbelivable.Did any of you tried to play it backward.Maybe it has some hidden message like some Led Zeppelin or Eagles songs.Or maybe it was always there and I didn't notice.

However ,This song is my favourite song TODAY. I just love the guitars and the way Jon screams for 30 seconds at the end and the awesome lyrics and the meaning and Misery Likes Company and everything. It's a great great song.

letitrock 02-15-2003 08:37 PM

it's not subliminal...

it's quite clearly on the recording, the whole verse in a low voice echoing the main vocal...

same thing on bad name "schoolboy's dream"...

not subliminal...

DevilsSon 02-15-2003 08:40 PM

I can clearly hear it on Bd Name but i never heard it on My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My arms before ...that's weird because I listened to These Days more than to any other Bj record......Weird....

alja 02-15-2003 08:48 PM

I think the whole These Days Album is one of Bon Jovi's finest, so this song is too! :D

letitrock 02-15-2003 08:54 PM

definitely my favourite TD song
