Bells Of Freedom

Anyone else love this song? I think it's excellent, great guitar and the lyrics I think are cool. It's one of the bright spots on HAND IMO. :)

Anybody else like it?

Supersonic 09-24-2008 08:17 PM

Aloha !

No. Shit.

severo17 09-24-2008 08:21 PM

Yup. I love it. One of my favorites in the HAND album :D

RSROCKS 09-24-2008 08:41 PM

I wouldn't say hate cause it's a strong word, so I'd say i strongly dislike it.

Goldsausage 09-24-2008 09:05 PM

I used to hate it but when it was played at Coventry in 2006 it turned me into a fan for some odd reason.

Crushgen24/88 09-24-2008 09:11 PM

I think it's ok
Not that good, not that bad either.
Just there.

hometownboy 09-24-2008 09:12 PM

I used to hate it but started liking it a few months ago :D

ponrauil 09-24-2008 09:42 PM

An insult to the fans.

We should launch a class action law suit on Jon's ass for this one.

It's a perfect example showing that ripping off your old work is a bad idea.

jade4jovi 09-24-2008 11:37 PM

I actually reallly like it. I don't see what's so wrong with it at all. It's by far one of the best on HAND IMO. Maybe even my favourite on there all together.

lol, I like these threads. It's interesting to see how much people's opinions vary.

bj54 09-25-2008 12:02 AM

I like it a lot. I think it's a great song and lyrics. It may not be one of their best, but it's a damn good song.

I cringe everytime it comes on and skip it.....

Exactly but then you have people on here that want Bon Jovi to do exactly what Motley Crue did which is essentially to rip off their old material and sell it to their fans as new material.

Butters 09-25-2008 01:35 AM

Awesome song. One of their very best.

SamboraQueen21 09-25-2008 01:37 AM

I LOVE it, especially the live version

FreakinSweetMan 09-25-2008 03:41 AM

I think its a good song, but the fact that its about ringing bells, I will only give it one thumb up.

Unfortunately - the comments here show that people don't realize that it's a rip off. I love the original song that it is taken from - but not the pale imitation. Let's see if I can find the post that ponrauil posted when it came out comparing the two. He did it so well.

If the love that I got for you is gone
Ring them bells, ring them loud

If the river I cried ain’t that long
Let them ring, here and now

Then I’m wrong,
Just reach out

yeah I’m wrong,
and ring

this ain’t a love song
the Bells of Freedom

I really liked the lyrics of the pre-release version.

Yeah. I´ve never understood why they had to do it this way. This is even more obvious than If You Were A Woman vs You Give Love A Bad Name. Or is it Desmond who likes to recycle?

Yes it's rip but it's GOOD rip and Bells OF is so different song and that's nothing wrong that this is rip. 2 different song with similar melody in chorus.

Music good/ Lyrics great / Vocal Fantastic = Great Song

JerseyMan 10-10-2008 08:31 PM

its ok, i think jon was really inspired when he wrote it, and he sang with such energy, i like it of course its not my fav from HAND but its ok

Yvonne 10-10-2008 11:21 PM

This is a fave of mine! Love it!

Chica Guacamole 10-10-2008 11:24 PM

Pale imitation of This Ain't A LOve Song IMO. I don't hate it enough to skip it every time it comes on, but I wouldn't miss it if it was to miraculously evaporate.

I wasn't aware of the pre-release lyrics, were they radically different?

JerseyMan 10-10-2008 11:38 PM

i didnt knew about it =/

kenobi_on_a_prayer 10-11-2008 10:17 AM

Not sure of the exact lyrics of the pre-release but the first verse has a girl running away from home ("Couldn't stay one more day in a house where innocence was stolen away"), juxtaposed with a guy leaving home for different reasons ("He left home off to war / Don't know why or what for").

Second verse is similar to the first verse of the final release. No church fields and dirt in the pre-release version.;)

But to me the pre-release actually had a point to it and was therefore a better song.

Grypweed 10-11-2008 10:44 AM

Preferred the lyrics in the prerelease, but I've always really dug the vocal in this, and the melody - even if it is a rip of TAALS (personally, I don't hear it) - is prettyful. Yus, PRETTYFUL.

Then again (since Sami brought it up), I've never heard the IF YOU WERE A WOMAN > BAD NAME thing either, so... but... anyway... I like it.

TheOnlyJoviFreak 10-11-2008 02:30 PM

Love it,

It's one of my fav's off HAND! :)

Soul for sale or rent 10-11-2008 03:54 PM

I love it, my second favourite on HAND, HAND being the first...
Jon's vocals are great!

JerseyMan 10-13-2008 06:23 PM

yeah great chorus =)

KeepTheFaith2211 10-13-2008 07:28 PM

Watching a live performance of it now, and I still think it's brilliant! :D

JerseyMan 10-13-2008 07:52 PM

great, i ll try to see it later

† ÀžžÀ † 10-13-2008 08:33 PM

cant say it's one of my real favourites but i find it ok. will agree that the vocals are great.
