Tokyo Road
Hi, I made a similar thread like this with Shot Through The Heart. Anyway, Tokyo Road is a great song from 7800 Farenheit and it never gets played live. It should. I also think it lives in the shadow of In & Out Of Love as the best song on the album which I find rediculous but it's people's opinions. Anyone else love this song?

Yup no 1 on 7800 no contest great song to just shout along too. Apart from that wierd little japenese piece in the intro havent got round to getting any live versions of this yet. Must remember too

When I first heard the Fahrenheit album back in 2001, this was THE standout track for me. Perhaps cause it's probably the most "accessable" song on there to the causual Bon Jovi/hard rock fan, aside from In And Out of Love. I found Fahrenheit to be the hardest album to get into back then, so this and I&OOL where the only ones I played at the time.
Perhaps the only song on there that could fit nicely on a later album like Slippery or New Jersey. It's just got that fun yet classy feel to it. Not so rough-sounding like the rest of the album. They could quite easily get away with playing this live now, IMO. |
live version from NJ tour:)

Tokyo Road is FAR AND AWAY the best song on 7800', but if you know my opinions on that album, that's not me saying much.
That being said, I'd love for them to bring it out of the live mothballs. |
Great song. The live recordings sound better in my opinion.
Who sang the Japanese part at the begining? I don't recall any credits for it. |

Anyone know what the Japanese part says? For the first bit I'm hearing either sakuya (last night) or sakura (cherry blossom) but it might be something else? And then later there's "miwatasukagiri" which I think means "if you look around" but I don't know. Can't work out the bit in the middle, something sky maybe? Argh.:p

I'm not really too keen on it. The music box intro is awesomely atmospheric, as is the bridge after the guitar solo (the whole "she walked in wearing nothing but a red light" bit). But aside from those bits, it's generally far too mid-paced, the guitars are rather uninspired, and the chorus kinda boring. Take out the music box intro and the bridge, and all you're left with is a somewhat inferior, slower version of In & Out Of Love IMO

I'll have to agree with most of the rest of you; 90% of Tokyo Road is a great song, save for the lame Japanese intro.

I think it's one of the stand outs on 7800 ... I like it live.

DUH song, I didn't quote any of ya'll ya know, which means I'm replying to the original topic. I hate the intro.
|
I was kidding.
And you knew that <_< |
I dunno, I'm pretty slow sometimes.
|
I wouldn't know how that feels.
|
That's because you're too slow to realize.
|
Too slow to realise what?

Great song.....in fact the songs on this album sounded superb live in concert...
Tokyo Road is a cracking song, the beginning of the song adds an atmosphere to the tune in my opinion.Unfortunately the production on the album doesnt really do justice to the majority of Fahrenheit Cant really see Jovi doing Tokyo Road live on this tour,i honestly dont think he can hit the high notes anymore!!! |

yayoi no sora wa mi-watasu kagiri sakura sakura yayoi no sora wa mi-watasu kagiri" "cherry blossoms cherry blossoms across the spring sky as far as you can see cherry blossoms cherry blossoms across the spring sky as far as you can see" It's an old Japanese folk song called "Sakura sakura". I remember reading from an interview back in the 80's that they put it there as a sign of thank you for their loyal Japanese fans who had sent them a small music box that played this song. |

I love the song, enough to say it's probably one of my favourite Jovi songs. |
Great song this "Tokyo Road". The only song from the album that I could really see fitting in today's setlists. The version from Rio 1990 is up there with their best recordings. Bring it back boys!
