Been waiting a long time for this to be re-released. My dad had this on VHS when it first came out and I managed to pick up the original OOP 1998 DVD relatively cheap on Amazon.co.uk a few years ago.

Living in a Ghost Town

New single, “Living in a Ghost Town”.

Sounds like we may be getting a new album as well.

Say safe.

It looks like they heard it because that's exactly how the new song sounds - post-prime Rolling Stones by numbers. To use a Bon Jovi analogy, it's like their version of "We Weren't Born To Follow".

That being said, I'm still happy to hear it myself, on YouTube it already has over 1m views just 17 hours after being uploaded and I see nothing but positive comments. That's what long absence does. Last time they released new original material was 2 songs in 2012 (for greatest hits) and before that, it was a full new album in 2005. I'm not saying Jon needs to be THAT inactive, but he'd get more of a buzz and casuals being thirsty for new music if he didn't insist on making a new album every 2-3 years.

Another expanded remastered album. Doesn't seem that long ago that the band themselves were celebrating their 40th Anniversary, and now one of their albums from the 80's is.

It was bound to be expected, really. The tour wasn't cancelled and it took a really long time for new dates to be announced. Then Charlie Watts would drop out of the tour because of a recovery.

It's odd though. Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards have plenty of health scares but continue to live on and on. Charlie Watts lives a peaceful, clean living and goes before them. If you'd have asked who'd have gone first I doubt many would've put him on top of the list.

There's plenty of big musicians who've died but now that a Rolling Stone has passed I think it's the start of the end of an era.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I thought the exact same thing about Charlie being the least likely of the current line-up to go first.

Obviously such a thing was/is imminent for them (and any band that’s been around forever) but it’s weird now that it’s starting to happen. It’s too soon right now to ponder on what will happen going forward but in all honesty, I think it would take losing either Mick or Keith to end the Stones run. I don’t mean that in an insensitive way at all of course. That’s just my prediction.

Exactly my thoughts, too.

I know, in his age and with his health situation it isn't too much of a surprise that this can happen. But it is a very sad day for the music business.
