Which of the non hits has to go?
Aloha !
Bon Jovi have a tendency to cram the setlists full with non hits no one cares for. As of right now, the current setlist has 5 songs in it which have never been a hit in the U.S.A. I've excluded everything that used to be there every night like Capt. Crash and I Love This Town, these are the ones that've shown up almost every single show: 1. Lost Highway The song was released as a single in 2008. Even though it hit some obscure chart in the U.S. it's fair to say no one knows the song. It works well, but so would many other songs. 2. Whole Lot Of Leavin' This song was never released as a single. Out of anything I've seen the band play in America this one, together with Work for the Working Man always tanked the most in concert. Yet it's still there almost every night. 3. We Got It Goin' On It's not hard to see why Jon keeps it in the set. It obviously gets the crowd going which is probably why it's still there. Like Raise Your Hands it's written for live shows. But its gimmick has worn off on me by now. Time to go? 4. We Weren't Born To Follow A song charting properly in the Billboard Hot 100 as Fye (a store in the USA) released it as a pysical single. Their last real hit. Even though it worked as a live song in 2010 when it had just been released as a single there's just no hope for it anymore. I've a feeling it's there because Jon wants to go out there pretending he's got hits from every decade, but who is he fooling? 5. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead Released as a single in 1993 and just hitting the Billboard Hot 100 it's another one of the party songs that just won't go away. When including the covers its bearable and the silly dance routine in 2011 made it bearable but I've grown so tired of it by now. Apart from its intro I also feel it doesn't work as well in America as Jon would like to believe. Does it deserve its live spot still? 25% of the set is stuff that could be exchanged for pretty much anything else. You're allowed to pick one. Which one has to go? Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
All of them.

Born to follow for sure. After that lost highway and sleep.
|
I'd drop most of 'em. Replace We Got it...with an 80's song with that vibe/swagger if Jon really wants a chance to shake his ass and wave at the crowd. If I had to pick just one...Whole Lot of Leaving though it's my favourite of the five.

Whole Lot of Leavin'. The other 4 are at least a bit recognizable, and CAN be decent live. WLOL is just nothingburger
|
Picked WLOL but essentially the first 3 need to disappear and follow needs to be seen a hell of a lot less. Sleep gets a pass from me but again should be rotated with others.
|
Born to Follow should be erased from history.

We Got It Goin On

All five. Immediately!

Born to Follow for sure and then Sleep. The others should be in rotation but not constant.

If I had to pick one, definitely Whole Lot of Leavin'. Lost Highway works pretty well at the beginning of a show, and Sleep is somewhat well known. I personally think BWC works better live than Born to Follow, just because it has one of the best sing-along choruses of any song released in the 2000s and 2010s. We Got it Going On works well live, but is a terrible song overall, and should be permanently replaced with One Wild Night.

Whole Lot of Leavin is in my top 5 Jovi songs of all time... but even I think it needs to be dropped from the set.
Lost Highway & Born to Follow should be rotated with each other. WGIGO and Sleep should be rotated with each other. I'm over both of them but can see why they're there. |

I voted for WLOL even though it's probably the best song of the five from the songwriting perspective, because it simply does not add the value as the other four do, whether as semi-hits that represent the era (Follow, LH) or supposedly fun live songs (Sleep, WGIGO). |
None of the 5 songs you listed should be dropped completely, but they don't deserve to be played every or nearly every night either. Just rotate them with other songs from the era that work just as well (Last Man Standing, Just Older, Superman Tonight, One Wild Night, etc.) If WLOL was only played once in awhile, no one would be sick of it.
I voted for WGIGO because it is the weakest song of the bunch, but it is kind of fun live. |
Don’t really post much on here but I vote whole lot of leavin’... I love the song but live it just doesn’t work so early in the set. Wish they’d take it out and play Sleep/Runaway back to back after bad name to keep the energy up early in the show

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead USED to be a hell of a lot of fun live. It has since dragged on and on over the last decade or so. It's played too slow and it seems to be almost a low point in the set. A shame when it can be really fun like here.

Lost Highway, it's awful.

They can all go. WLOL is the better of the songs and I’d personally rather hear that than any of the others.
ISWID is just tired now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Should be like this...
Rotation 1 - Minor Hit
Rotation 2 - Album Cut
Rotation 3 - Party Song
If the staples were rotated often enough, they wouldn't be so unbearable when they did show up. |

Although it's probably my favorite songwriting out of the lot, I voted for WLOL. It's tired, long overplayed, and when paired with LH it's just a drag on the set.

Born to Follow and Whole Lot of Leavin' both belong to my top10 Bon Jovi songs, so I absolutely want to keep them (and fortunately been able to hear live)! Born to Follow was current at the time when I started listening to Bon Jovi and was therefore a significant part of me becoming a fan. Lost Highway was among the first albums I listened to in its entirety, and WLOL stood out with its melody even before I really concentrated on the lyrics and realized how meaningful they are.
All in all, if I have to pick one song, it's Lost Highway. That is not so important for me. And I do realize that if you have become a fan because of 80s albums, you may not be the biggest fan of the 21st century stuff. But luckily there is a wide selection for different kinds of fans, and when it comes to live shows, Jon seems to share my taste for the most part ;) |
