Now that the four of us are back at home, getting settled and decompressing after one of the craziest, wildest and greatest weeks of our career, word has gotten to us over the weekend that Hardwired...To Self-Destruct is number one in a staggering 57 countries, Top 3 in 75 countries and Top 5 in 105 countries! We’re not quite sure we can even name 105 countries!

Wow... what an insane awesome ride it’s been. We are stunned, beyond grateful and truly appreciative that not only have Metallica fans embraced Hardwired…To Self-Destruct beyond our wildest expectations, but more importantly, we’re proud to see that hard rock and metal is still viable and matters in 2016…TO SO MANY PEOPLE! The support, excitement, and love from all corners of the planet means so much to us and we are sincerely blown away by the response.

The story has just begun and there is so much more to come, but we want to thank you for making this such a special time in Metallica history. We look forward to seeing you out on the road as we’re just getting started here. Please keep your posts, photos, comments, critiques and stories coming our way!!

I must say on I like all the songs on the first cd, however the 2nd cd is not quite as strong, but overall I much prefer this cd to THINFS.

Same here, especially Spit Out The Bone is epic. I haven't listened to the first cd but this album is a cracker.

THINFS has worn out already, don't care for many of the songs.

Vinyl just arrived. Record 1 is fantastic: great songs, great production. Record 2 tomorrow [emoji4]

The second album is slower, but over time some of his songs have grown in me. Now I love Manunkind, however at first I did not like it, I love this song right now. When James sings "Quest to Find" it sounds... so cool. and the intro is amazing.

Am I Savage, fu**ing cool intro too.

Metallica 1st single "Hardwired" August 18 ------ 22 million views now on Youtube
Metallica 2nd single "Moth Into Flame" September 26 ------ 14 million views now on Youtube
Metallica 3rd single "Atlas, Rise" October 31 ------ 8 million views now on Youtube

November 18 ---- All songs on the new Metallica album are on Youtube with their corresponding official video, and all exceed one million visits.

VS

Bon Jovi 1st single "This House Is Not For Sale" August 12 ----- 5 million views now on Youtube
Bon Jovi 2nd single "Knockout" October 21 ---- 900,000 views now on Youtube
Bon Jovi 3rd single "Labor Of Love" November 4 ----- 550,000 views now on Youtube

What happened? Why is there so much difference? Jon must find a way to better promote his music.

There is so much cool stuff on this album, the best since the Black album IMO.
Just gone back through listening to Load etc and Hardwired is much better.

Maybe its cos Metallica have not released an album in 8 years. So the (well justified) hype was in full flow.
Since then havent Jovi released about 4 along with GH?
The Circle, GH, WAN, BB and THINFS - maybe too many?

I really liked Load and RE-Load- they had to do something different creatively for their own sake.

Garage days was great as well so too S&M...But St Anger and Death Magnetic...not so good.

This album is back on track

I agree. I think I like something from every album. Garage Inc is fantastic, especially since I think James is impressive with his vocal performance. Bob Rock also did a great job of mixing and producing.

On Load, there are a lot of songs that I like, and Reload still maintains this atmoshpere, is a bit worse than Load, but it has some great songs.

On St Anger, well, the band was going through a crisis and it was a very intense album, without solo, and Bob Rock was a very difficult time to look for the new sound that metallica intended with that album. Despite this, I rescue some songs, St Anger, Some Kind Of Monster and Dirty Window, I find good.

I love Death Magnetic, in spite of its excesses for lengthening the songs. The problem is that it sounds very high and compressed, it is annoying to the ear, and I am sure that there are people who have lost hearing constantly listening to this disc with the headphones.

Hardwired corrects a lot of things of Death Magnetic, and goes beyond in variety and inspiration. As I have said on several occasions, James Hetfield is fantastic. Just for this, it is better than the last albums that have released. I love the choruses, the sound, some great intros, it feels good, feels solid and is adictive. :D

Ok yeah after listening to it a few times..... the best since Justice.
I miss the days of radio singles vs album versions , so I like the length of the songs. Refreshing to hear good proper music for a change and not the production line rubbish.

They are a unique metal/thrash/rock band. Still highly regarded in their own genre but mainstream enough to sell massive amounts of albums.

Wow, Amazing. The competition was tough, Metallica kicked the ass to Bruno Mars and Miranda Lambert, both of them with new albums of the week.

I'm not shocked at the number as they haven't had a record in 8 years. I'm more shocked that Bruno Mars didn't sell many more cds than Jovi the first week. He's extremely popular right now in the US.

As a big fan of Bruno Mars, I am quite dissapointed by his sales. Obviously, he will have a top 10 spot for a few weeks due to being a young act with singles, but still... I guess Metallica is having a some sort of renaissance in terms of commercial appeal; similarly to AC/DC in 2008 with Black Ice.

I agree. Bruno will hang in the charts longer than Metallica is my guess as well.

steel_horse75 11-28-2016 06:13 PM

Treat them mean keep them keen.

Metallica - 1 album in 8 years.
AC/DC - 8 and 6 years between albums

Less is more.

Yup. Jon is too productive for his own good. And it's probably the same with live shows - I bet his voice would've been in better condition now if he didn't tour as often for as long as he has.

rolo_tomachi 11-28-2016 07:38 PM

8 years is also a risk. When a band of that age no release a album during a long season can also be harmful, as in the case of Aerosmith. I think that is a merit of Metallica. And In fact, they not take a long time for the launch of an album, especially because a few years ago maked these record with Lou Reed, "Lulu", which was a big failure. His movie, "Through the Never" was not well received either. Hardwired is the first studio album that Metallica launch with his own label, Blackened Records.

I understand we're Jovi's fans first, but hey, they're doing it a little better now. And Bruno Mars (197K) sold more that Jovi (129K).

Positive reviews on Metacritic: 73/100 and Use Score: 8.1
http://www.metacritic.com/music/hard...ruct/metallica

Jovi reviews was less. Metacritic: 59/100 and Use Score: 6.6
http://www.metacritic.com/music/this...-sale/bon-jovi

I have always said that Bon Jovi should let 4 years pass since his last album. It could work more in the music, in the composition, to make it worthwhile, and the people will obtain more espectacion by the wait of those years.

I'm torn on this one... I like it a lot but don't love it... Something is missing... It's like I've heard all this before but better versions... It's almost like these are the And Justice For All B-Sides... Spit Out The Bone? Really? In 2016?

I know I'm alone on this one but this is where I credit Jon for never wanting to repeat the same album twice... I think musically it's there, lyrically not, and the attitude seems a little forced...

And Justice For All was their musical peak imo... Although the Black album (along with Load and Reload) solidified them into that mainstream top 40 commercial success category, And Justice For All was the album that got them there... 'One' is obviously a classic... Then you got Ride The Lighting, Fade To Back, Master Of Puppets, For Whom The Bell Tolls, it's just an endless list of beauties that are so well written lyrically that none of these songs can even compare... I'm not one for comparing albums to the past but if you are going to put out an album like it's the mid 80's, I'm going to compare it to the mid 80's..

With all that said, having this sound back is a breath of fresh air!!! I don't give it the same praise that everyone else is but It sounds like classic Metallica and for that, I gotta love it... Maybe with a few more listens, it's grow on me some more...

It is a very respectable opinion. But of course I do not share it. Nobody said that Hardwired is a masterpiece, obviously it is not a perfect album, but it is very enjoyable, and especially accessible, something that were not the latest releases of metallica. There are a lot of references to all his albums and also to other bands that have influenced Metallica, but for some strange reason, this mix works very well for me. It sounds cool, there are great voices, good riffs, groovy songs, it's a solid album despite its flaws. And yes, the album grows over time.

And in my opinion, I hope someday Jon make a record as satisfying as this. I can not credit Jon because what he have done with This House Is Not For Sale is basically the same from 2000 until now. Jon is don't take Keep The Faith, These Days or New Jersey and SWW, ok, but is influenced by Have A Nice Day, Lost Highway and WAN, its worse version. This House is an album that also reminds me of a lot of songs that before became much better, but I understand that even though it is not perfect, it is not bad.

It seems like we have a way to measure different for both bands, I understand, we are Bon Jovi fans first, no problem, but both have some problems when it comes to creating something original, at least metallica tries to use the best of their repertoire to make a good song, Jon though ...

I love both bands, and And I am aware of their weaknesses. This House is ok, Hardwired feels very good.

Rdkopper 11-29-2016 02:06 AM

Enjoyable - Yes... Respectable - Yes
Masterpiece - No

Do I want to see Jon do the same? Ummm maybe... I'm very happy with This House... I think the production could be better... which is throwing everyone off but I'm really looking forward to hearing them all live....
