Rediscovering 7800
Just uncovered my CD while looking for other stuff. Popped it in and King of the Mountain is playing. Its like a whole different band. I remember "loosing" this CD not long after I first bought it and hating it so much.
Time to give it another chance then I think. What are your favourites from it? Oh....Tokyo Road is on now. Jesus what a ****ing weird intro. |
Always maintained that its a great album ... at least as good as, if not better than Bryan Adam's Reckless I'd say. One of the few albums where the synthesisers sound really good to my ears. Favourites? Price Of Love, Only Lonely, Hardest Part and To The Fire (everyone seems to hate that one for some reason, I love it!)

I'd forgotten 90% of this stuff. Price of Love is on now. Some great work by Richie. Makes me sad in a way.

I actually pulled this one out last week for the first time in about 2 years and I hated it as much I remembered.
Man, it's dreadful IMO. It's so weak, musically and lyrically. Jon's vocals are pretty horrid and there's just a distinct lack of real creativeness, all the songs sound very similar. I just really don't like it. Not one song I'd rate over 5/10. Phil |
never did like 7800 a great deal. I quite liked 'I don't wanna fall [to the fire]'. I have'nt listened to the album in ages, theres always something else I'd rather listen to...

back then bon jovi rocked! And they knew it. there was a whole other attitude in their music during the 80s, even on SWW (which is a bad album).
my fav. is The hardest part is the night, brilliant song, a bit commercial but still GREAT! |

but then you say Have A Nice Day is 'back and better than ever' so I guess you must have serious ear-problems. IMO this album is way better than the debut and I still consider it the most under-rated hard rock album of the 80s. Man, this record is energy pure, still it has such a dark feel. And the title, best title BJ had for any record. 7800 is a gret guitar-drum-vocals combination. Ok, the lyrics are not the best but the songs have enaugh power to make this unimportant. |

My favourite track on the CD is Hardest Part Is The Night, but apart from Silent Night and King Of The Mountain, I like all the songs. It's understandable why "In And Out Of Love" was the track chosen for Crossroad, though, because it's the most "partylike" track, something like "Hardest part" would have felt REALLY out of place on Crossroad.
|
7800 is a good album. There are some shitty tracks, but mostly good stuff. Tokyo Road is a killer, Price Of Love, Only Lonely, Hardest Part.. all rock. Richies guitar works is a lot better than on the 2000's albums.

Have always loved this album...love To The Fire.

My fav is Hardest Part Is The Night. The lyrics are good and the solo is the best on the album.
|
Tokyo Road is probably my favourite so far. I love the intro the Hardest Part is the Night. Secret Dreams is a bizarre song - great rocky riff for the verses but a horrible weak chorus. Its a song I want to like but just.....cant. Yet.

It's the album we must listen when we want to hear a young rock band full of energy, believing in their music :)
Not a great work but it rocks, and i miss this sort of guitar work. Tokyo Road, King of the Mountain and even Secret dreams are good. And each time i hear In and Out of Love i wish i heard this one live at this time !!!! |
I can't say it's my fave BJ Album, but I have a soft spot for it cause it's a HEAVY METAL albums. I love most of the songs. The solos are great.. especially Silent night.
I also love the ticking sound behind the bridge in Only lonley where hes talking about a timebomb ticking in his head. Keep in mind this was back in the day when bands developed over 3 or 4 albums and crafted thier sound. if this had been thier 2nd release now.. there would be no third. |
This kind of posts make me sick.
One day I read "your fav album?" and everybody posted their fav albums in order and 7800 was last or almost. Now I read that almost everybody loves this album. Sure. It's under rated. But it surely shouldn't be. Listen to it 1 time.. or maybe 2.. and you'll see what a great BJ rock album is all about. Now they're making girly albums compared to 7800. Great song. Great Riffs. Great vocals. Great lyrics. Great solos. So... Why is it so under rated? I love: *Hardest Part (truly a masterpiece) *Tokyo Road (Great on studio. Great Live. What more can I say. Ahh.. Great intro BTW) *Only Lonely (Absolutely amazing. Powerful chorus and guitars. Just Great) *In and out of love *Silent Night |

Sorry I got carried away! I'm usually friendly. |
I never considered this album to be Metal or anything close to it. But maybe that's because My idea of Metal is something like iron maiden or Judas Priest or Black Sabbath. Which is a category i don't consider this album to belong in, but a good album nonetheless.
It's the sound of a band still developing and obviously didn't have a very clear idea of where they wanted to head musically. the hunger is definetly there and the guitar work is great on a lot of the songs, it's the songs themselves that suffer, because I don't really think they stand up to much. I can see why some people love this album since it shows another side of the band they wish would have continued but this just ain't my cup of tea. When I bought it I wanted to like it, I really did, but only wound up liking parts of the songs (a lick here, a chorus there, the solo here) never the took the actual songs on there to really be something great. Just my opinion though. |
