The Official May 31 Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia Thread
Setlists, Predictions, Videos, Disappointments, Complaints...
It's touring season again! The last time they played in in Moscow (or anywhere in Russia for that matter) was way back on August 13, 1989, during the New Jersey Syndicate Tour. Since Setlist.fm doesn't have the setlist for that night, the setlist for the previous night (August 12) is shown below. This is quite possibly the longest gap between shows in a particular country. 01. Lay Your Hands on Me 02. I'd Die For You 03. Wild in the Streets 04. You Give Love a Bad Name 05. Let it Rock 06. I'll Be There For You 07. Blood on Blood 08. Runaway 09. Wanted Dead or Alive [feat. Richie's badass triple-neck guitar] 10. Livin' on a Prayer 11. Bad Medicine ---------------------------------------- 12. Hound Dog [Big Mama Thornton / Elvis Presley Cover; feat. Motley Crue, Cinderella, Scorpions] 13. Long Tall Sally [Little Richard Cover; feat. Gorky Park, Cinderella, Scorpions] 14. Rock and Roll [Led Zeppelin Cover; feat. Skid Row, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Scorpions, Jason Bonham] 15. Give Peace a Chance [John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band Cover; feat. Gorky Park, Skid Row, Cinderella, Scorpions] I was expecting Jon to sound like a donkey with a throat infection, but he sounded better than expected. 2019 Setlist: 01. This House is Not For Sale 02. Raise Your Hands 03. You Give Love a Bad Name 04. Born to Be My Baby 05. Whole Lot of Leavin' 06. Lost Highway 07. Runaway 08. We Weren't Born to Follow 09. Have a Nice Day 10. Keep the Faith 11. Amen 12. Bed of Roses 13. It's My Life 14. We Don't Run 15. These Days 16. Lay Your Hands on Me 17. God Bless This Mess 18. Blood on Blood 19. We Got it Going on 20. Bad Medicine ---------------------------- 21. In These Arms 22. Wanted Dead or Alive 23. Livin' on a Prayer |
The last time they played there was August 13th, 1989 ;) They did two consecutive nights there.

It actually is astonishing to think they haven't played somewhere in 30 years. Is it seriously that hard to arrange concerts in Russia?
They've had a LOT of albums in that 30 year time period, you'd think one of those past tours (especially the 2010/2011 era when they were last at their best) would have brought them back to Russia. |

This isn't the issue though. Jon didn't want to go back. Although the Moscow Peace Fest got a lot of positive coverage Jon didn't enjoy Russia at all. Mind you, this was back when there was still a lot of spionage going on. Promoters have tried very hard to get a deal arranged but Jon's personal opinion got in the way. There was also no need to travel that far when there were so many options to do shows in western Europe. These options are gone now and thus the band needs to venture into different markets. I've no idea why the band isn't playing 2 or 3 cities in Russia as the market is there but alas, that's not the case. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
There are still a lot of tickets, many of which are given away for free in various contests. They can't sell 1 stadium with capacity circa 60 000 here. The only way they do 2 or 3 cities is to play much smaller venues. Although not many people think the band will come again.

Jon is aware of what their hits are in different countries and caters the setlist a bit to it. I suppose Jon knows that there is no need to play 'Who says' , 'Born to follow' and even no songs of lost highway. (Even if LH is a decent track i.m.o.)
So let's hope they dive deeper into KTF and TD which are their hit records over here. |
