Motley Crue - 80 million albums worldwide
I know this has been discussed before, and as big of a Motley fan as I am, how the hell can they claim this? There's just no way. Their biggest album in the US sold 6 million copies. There is no way in hell they've sold 55 million records outside of the US.
They've only had 7 studio releases (the record without Vince didn't sell shit.) They've had about half a dozen greatest hits records, but they've all been the same. Anyone have any factual numbers, and not some BS crap the band made up? |
i too am also a massive fan but although they have had about 20 greatest hits albums there is no way they have sold 80m albums.
Bear in mind that their best album (self titled in 94 with no Vince) sold about 350k, New Tattoo sold 200k and Generation Swine sold 305k. Biggest selling albums are Decade Of Decadence and Dr Feelgood but no way have they shifted half of 80m albums. Even if you add in all their solo stuff 80m just dont add up. |
It's bullshit, I don't think they sold more than 40 million records. They weren't big out of their homeland.

Too Fast For Love - 1 million Shout at the Devil - 4 million Theatre Of Pain - 4 million Girls, Girls, Girls - 4 million Dr. Feelgood - 6 million Decade of Decadence - 2 million Motley Crue - 500K Generation Swine - 500K Greatest Hits - 500K New Tattoo - 200K Red, White and Crue - 1 million Saints of Los Angeles - 500K None of their other EP'S or live albums went gold or platinum. That totals just about 25 million, which is correct. Again, no way did they sell 55 million albums outside of the US. |
