Alec and These Days?

I've been thinking for a long time, did Alec get to hear and listen to some of the early demos songs written for These Days while he was still in the band in late 1994 ?

Alphavictim 12-10-2017 03:48 AM

Well, he certainly knew about Diamong Ring.

Probably. He didn't like the band's sound during the KTF era and maybe it carried on to the TD recording. There's a great chance that I'm wrong though

Alphavictim 12-10-2017 04:06 AM

Where'd you read that he had issues with the band's sound?

Captain_jovi 12-10-2017 06:53 AM

I thought it was TD he had a problem with. There was one of those interviews where he said he was way more open with telling Jon he doesn't like the new material.

:-D
I think it was on a blog comment. Alec want the glam metal sound but didn't like the new stuff at all. It triggered him to mess up again and it went too far. I mean can you expect a band like GNR make a song like Always? HELL NO.

Would you expect 80s Bon Jovi to make a song like It's So Easy or One In A Million? The two bands were never that much alike.

Or AC/DC to make a song like Tokyo Road or It's my life?

Thinny 12-10-2017 03:27 PM

Actually I think and AC/DC version of Tokyo Road would sound amazing!

Captain_jovi 12-11-2017 04:41 AM

Holy hell yes I would love that.

I think Alec performed Always with them a couple of time still in the fall of 94. And when Jon started writing the TD material he wasn't 100% positive he's gonna fire Alec just yet.

Yes, Alec performed Always with the guys but Always isn't on These Days

Well d'oh! I know it isn't. What I mean that Alec was aware of what Jon and Richie were writing for TD.

I though he was fired in the summer or at the latest fall of 1994 ?!

Yeah but the writing process for These Days had started probably in January/February of 1994. During the infamous interview in which Alec said that he'll not be playing on the upcoming album he had also stated that the guys still sent him demo recordings of new songs to ask for his opinion on the material. So I guess he was aware of the sound development during at least 70% of the production process for These Days.

I didn't doubt that. I was just referring to the comment that he played with the guys in the fall of 1994...

Sorry, then I must've misunderstood what you were saying.
He played with them up until the summer of 1994. His last known appearance was at the MTV studios in London on August 10th:

The next full band appearance then was at the end of October at the Letterman show if I remember correctly and by then Hugh was with them.

Sorry, that was my bad. I misrecalled it was later than August.
