Kevin Rowland - Thunder Road
Most of you will hate this (especially the lyric changes). I love it. |
DANCING IN THE DARK - AMY MACDONALD
Amy Macdonald is my new Springsteen :) She also does a great cover of Born To Run which I witnessed but can't find a decent video of. I'm so protective over Born To Run covers and dismiss each and every one of them, but she did good! FOR YOU - THE DISCO BOYS And I strangley enjoy this cover of For You. I'm sure there are more I've come across. I'll be back, as Arnie would say. |

Just listened and...I have mixed feelings. It's not a bad cover, in fact, if I could find the chords for it I'd learn it on guitar. But his accent is ****ing horrendous and ruins it. But I love the picture on that video :p It never occured to me to go into the art department in college and get someone to draw me and my mate in the style of the Born To Run cover - but now it has! I guess now I'll check out more Frank Turner, out of curiosity :p |

Bat For Lashes - I'm On Fire
Tori Amos - I'm On Fire Both are brilliant! |
This is lovely
Tegan and Sara - Dancing in the Dark |
This is the first I've ever seen or heard of Sara Barielles, but I prefer this I'm On Fire to the Tori Amos...
|
Oh yeah, this is what happens when one legend covers a great song by another legend.
This is my favourite Bruce cover EVER. FURTHER ON UP THE ROAD - JOHNNY CASH |
The Avvett Brothers - Glory Days
Bettye Lavette - Streets Of Philadelphia (absolutely fantastic) |
These guys (another Jersey Shore band):
http://www.myspace.com/outsidethebox do an awesome cover of Kitty's Back. I just don't see a video of it anywhere - or even audio. |

anyway i ran a youtube search and found this ... Outside The Box - Kittys Back |
I am not a fan of covers. To me it seems like an easy road away from the own lack of inspiration. Also, I strongly believe that there are a lot of songs that shouldn't be covered because 9 out of 10 times I like the original version way better. However, there are exceptions. Think of GnR's Knockin On Heavens Door.
Someone mentioned Dropkick Murphys in this thread and that reminded me of their cover of Fortunate Son which I think is one of the few covers that are actually better then the original version. Dancing in the Dark by Amy McDonald Oli? Seriously. How can you possibly like that ? I salute you, TS |

I know the general opinion of McFly is not very positive on this board, but I think they did a really cool band-acoustic cover of Born to run....

I am not talking about liking or not liking Amy McDonald. I am talking about liking her covering a Bruce song that, in my opinion, shouldn't be covered as well as many other songs.
Has nothing to do with me liking AC/DC or not you slacker ! I salute you, TS |

I like it! And Dancing In The Dark is in one of my all time favourite Bruce songs so I'm pretty protective over it. And if not for Amy a bunch of stupid people, such as my own mother (love you), would not have realised the actual lyrics are pretty depressive. And also, as a big fan of the song's lyrics, it's nice to listen to Amy's slow version on a dark day instead of Bruce's. And that, my friend, is why I like Dancing In The Dark by Amy Macdonald. |
You suck.
I salute you, TS |
But seriously.
Bruce wrote it so he has more feeling with it and therefore can also express the intention in a better way. Amy can only copy the intention and give the song her own twist. However you like a cover or not, I feel the performance will always lack hearing the intention has how the original author meant it. This is my motivation for the reply I posted above this one. I salute you, TS |
I disagree. I have one name for you, and one word.
HURT JOHNNY CASH |

I figured especially you, with your unhealthy springsteen obsession, you want to stand up against all those covers. Yet I find that the force isn't strong with this one. I salute you, TS |

However, I do enjoy his covers of Highway Patrolman and Johnny 99 :) Quote:

I wouldn't say my Bruce Springsteen obsession is unhealthy by the way...I wouldn't even call it an obsession.
It's a...ok, maybe there isn't a word for it yet, but "unhealthy obsession" is definately not it. Maybe it's just love  < tears of happiness. |
