Iron Maiden
Before now, I've never really been given the oppurtunity to listen to their music... but yesterday, I heard Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter, and its fantastic! What does everyone else think of them, and what other songs/ albums can they recommend?

I don't know if you're aware of this, but they've had 3 vocalists. The best of course is Bruce Dickinson, who's responsible for most of their hits. The other two, Paul DiAnno and Blaze Bayley do not sing as well as Bruce but they were alright. Check out these songs: 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name (their best song ever, Steve Harris could never top this epic, although he came close a few times) 2. Fear Of The Dark (listen to the live version, much more powerful than the studio version) 3. Wasted Years 4. The Evil That Men Do 5. The Trooper 6. Run To The Hills 7. Number Of The Beast (check out Bruce's scream) 8. The Wicker Man (their most recent hit) 9. Aces High 10. 2 Minutes To Midnight 11. The Clairvoyant 12. Killers (this is a DiAnno song, very nasty and evil) 13. Futureal (Blaze's song) 14. Iron Maiden (the classic, DiAnno song) 15. Wrathchild 16. Be Quick Or Be Dead I would recommend you picking up any of their compilations. I have Best Of The Beast 2CD edition (now out of print, but if you can track it down, it is the best compilation). Other compilations that are still available: - Ed Hunter - Edward The Great - Best Of The Beast (1 CD version) or just check out any of their live albums. |
they rock so so so much
bloody donnington full of goths and crap music or else i'd go |

Recently I've been listening to Edward the Great a lot, I got it at Christmas. I've got to say, I had Number Of The Beast on my stereo only yesterday at full blast, and I thought... "Why hadn't I realised what a f**king great rock anthem this is before???? 8) " |
The white man came across the sea, they brought us pain and misery.....Run to the hills, run for your lives.... 8)

They received a golden raspberry for it for being the worst song of the year. It's also the only Maiden song to reach #1. Go and figure that out :D |
This is a list of their albums:
- Iron Maiden (1980) [line-up: Paul Di'Anno vocals, Steve Harris bass, David Murray guitar, Clive Burr drums, Dennis Stratton guitar] - Killers (1981) [Stratton is replaced by Adrian Smith] - The number of the beast (1982) [Di'Anno is replaced by Bruce Dickinson] - Piece of mind (1983) [Burr is replaced by Nicko McBrain] - Powerslave (1984) [no changes until 'No prayer for the dying] - Live after death (live album 1985) - Somewhere in time (1986) - Seventh son of a seventh son (1988) - No prayer for the dying (1990) [Smith is replaced by Janick Gers] - Fear of the dark (1992) - A real live one (live, 1993) - A real dead one (live, 1993) - Live at Donnington 92 (live, 1994) - The X factor (1995) [Dickinson is replaced by Blaze Bayley] - The best of the beast (compilation, 1996) - Virtual XI (1998) - Ed Hunter (compilation + game, 1999) - Brave new world (2000) [Bayley is replaced by Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith returns. Line up: Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Janick Gers, Nicko McBrain] - Rock in Rio (live, 2002) - Edward the Great (compilation, 2002) - the new album in 2003 (recording is finished) They also released 'Eddie's Archive in 2002 which contained 2 double disc live albums and 1 double disc with their best b-sides (check out Adrian Smith on vocals on 'Reach out') I might have forgotten something but I'm sure someone can fill me in. |
In fact Bruce's version of Bring Your Daughter(with only Janick on the guitar) "won" the golden raspberry!BTW-this version isn't that good like IM version(I still think Bring is pretty cool track, but for sure not the best)!
Anyway-I've seen them 5 times live and they always rule! "Scream for meeeeeeeeeeeeee..............." |

Well, you're probably right. A lot of people don't like the song cause it's too commercial I guess. Same with 'Can I play with madness', though I never had a problem with that one. |
Is it Bruce doin vocals on virtual XI ?! sumtimes i cant tell the difference.. future real and clansman sound like bruce.. help me out here!

Bruce only did those songs live. Check one of my earlier posts for the line-up of each Maiden album |
Iron Miaden are another band i got al albums by. I don't like Blaze Bailey at all. Virtual XI was crap. But BRAVE NEW WORLD....what an album. Pure Heavy Metal. It's in my opinion the best album of the 00s to say it like that.
I saw them once live but Bailey was the frontman. It didn't really have an impact on me. i'll see them this summer again. I can't wait to see Dickinson and Harris together....UP THE IRONS!!! |
