Jon's dislike for 7800 Fahrenheit
I was just watching the Behind the Scenes documentary and in the part where they're talking about the 7800 Fahrenheit record, they say that all the pain from Jon's breakup with dorothea, etc. poured into the songs/lyrics, so maybe that's the real reason why Jon doesn't like the album or plays songs from it? Just a thought, sorry if it has been discussed somewhere already, but couldn't remember it...

He’s always said that those songs reflect a bad period in their lives. Tico and Alec we’re both married and their wives left them too. They experienced a theft of a lot of their equipment too and that hit a struggling band hard.

There were the private problems but I think I also recall him saying that Fahrenheit was kinda rushed with songwriting, recording & production.
But Jon also seems to dislike his debut record (Runaway aside) - for that I don´t know the reasons. I wonder if his cousin had too much influence on those 2 records. I don´t remember their whole history right now. |

I thought that was kind of strange... |
It's got nothing to do with the material itself... its the fact that he's got no desire to promote it because he owns none of the royalties and he was just a puppet to his record company back then...

Is that true RD? How do you know that???
Jon has often made it clear he doesn't think much of the first 2 records, but 7800 particularly. |
Jon once said, that 7800º only served as coasters. Sad. The album is good, no great but is a solid rock album.

Also, why would the royalties he receive differ from the first 2 albums to Slippery onwards?

That might be a factor in Jon’s dislike of the albums but I’d imagine that the fact they were relatively unsuccessful and are probably written a million miles away from where he is now are probably a bigger contributor. |

The songwriter, recording artist, publisher, and record label all make money off the sale of a recording. And in terms of ownership, the publisher(s) own the rights to a song. Bon Jovi Publishing owns a portion of the rights to every song on Fahrenheit. Song publisher(s) are listed on ASCAP. https://www.ascap.com/repertory#ace/...mer/BON%20JOVI |
Also anyone here know why the Bounce album was also least played? Yeah it is inspired by 9/11 attack but the album still got a great audible in Everyday and a great love song in YHMFH. Some of the songs also require less range too.

Although I do agree that some of these songs are good options to add as "rarities" given Jon's voice and, to some extent, he's already done it - Undivided and YHMFH have both been played a few times. Open All Night also sounded great in 2010 when Jon had decent pipes to pull it off. |

Everyday certainly got more airplay than In & Out Of Love, and that one's on the Greatest Hits album.
The one track Jon mentioned when asked why nothing from Bounce was on the GH was Misunderstood, btw. ("that album just didn't contain any of our greatest hits I guess. Wait, was Misunderstood on that one? Oh well"; something to that effect) And that IS a great song - easily the best of the (video) singles. |
Haha I would love to see/read that interview.
|
Oh boy, I think it was a video? Might have been a Q&A, although I think most of these more intimate ones were after the GH was already long out? Unsure about the wording, whether that was "didn't contain any of our greatest hits", or "none of our greatest hits", or anything... tough to Google that way. He was asked why nothing from Bounce was on it.

7800 is better than anything released by the band in the last 20 years.
Solid album with 1 duff track in King Of The Mountain. |
So there's this pic on Twitter that shows 1993 Jon reading 7800 of all things...

King of the mountain might be a bit naive, but its a cool interesting hard rock song.
I used to have a lot fun with this and if I was your mother when I was a kid. Hell even my classmates had gotten to know and like much King of the mountain and If I was your mother, even if they werent hits. |

Im old skool Jovi - nothing after These days is consistent enough. The first 6 are simply amazing |

Misunderstood got good airplay here too, but I don't think Jon has been able to sing the chorus in a very long time. Which is a shame, because I really like that song. I remember seeing video of a show several tours back where a fan had a sign requesting it. He said he didn't remember the words so he had her go on stage and hold a huge binder of their song lyrics for him to read from as he attempted to sing it. |
