There's no way that's not him singing "lii-i-ines"; but I'd back it up even further to 1:27. "...If ya stay..." and "... you wanna steal a piece of tii-i-ime..." is pure Richie, too, imo. RDK, you may be right about the verses, but I'm not sure that what you're hearing isn't Richie emulating Jon's vocal style. He's done that before, where I've had to go back and listen to be sure it was him. I don't know if it's intentional or not, maybe for blend; but I've noticed it in several songs. In this case, while I agree that there are places in the verses that sound like Jon, there are just too many other words in the same places that have Richie's distinctive 'bend' (for want of a better word) for me to believe it's not Richie all the way through. Including the oooohs, Thinny. :) It's that li'l hitch in it somewhere, like the Cap'n compared to If I Can't Have Your Love, that just nails it as far as I'm concerned. |
I'm not doubting either way...
But I have a pretty good ear picking out Richie's voice and I hear it on everything that contains a lyric... I'm just trying to figure out if they went back after and added all the additional harmonies, including the ending... and used studio tricks to do it. There are parts where I hear Jon backing himself up and that ending might just be just a random session singer who has a great falsetto. Again, I'm not calling it either way but I'm not doubting my little conspiracy theory either. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using Tapatalk |
Jon used to sing some of the backing vocals throughout his career. Blaze Of Glory or These Days album for example.

Just listened through a set of headphones - I do hear Richie backing him on some. Others is difficult to tell but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt on that but back to my original question...
I'm not convinced that it's Richie's falsetto at the end.. From what I'm hearing, I'm gearing more towards "no". Dann Huff is a vocalist and he produced the track... Hummn |

I always thought it was an odd choice to have Jon to the Yeah yeah Yeah bits on Lie to me as Richie would have sounded great on that and would have tied in with the "I Don't Wanna Die No More" part. In fact when I hear that song in my head, I hear Richie doing it. I believe Dave did it live? |
