New Jersey to be played in 2018?
Well it's the 30th anniversary of New Jersey in 2018 and in the same way U2 are touring and playing The Joshua Tree could we see Bon Jovi attempt it in Europe? Seems a long shot I'll admit but with the deluxe release of New Jersey a couple of years back it is seen as a very important album. There are of course two big issues with this... the first being Jon's vocal condition and the second not wanting to visit a time period without Richie being present. It would be difficult but not impossible. If it were to happen would you be happy with something like this:
Lay Your Hands On Me Bad Medicine Born To Be My Baby Living In Sin Blood On Blood Homebound Train Wild Is The Wind Ride Cowboy Ride Stick To Your Guns I'll Be There For You 99 In The Shade Love For Sale This House Is Not For Sale You Give Love A Bad Name Lost Highway Roller Coaster We Weren't Born To Follow I'll Sleep When I'm Dead We Got It Goin On Who Says You Can't Go Home It's My Life God Bless This Mess Have A Nice Day Keep The Faith Encore : Wanted Dead Or Alive Livin On A Prayer |
As cool as that would be... No Way!!!

With Jon's voice I just don't see it happening. Even if it did, with a different guitar player I don't know how interested I'd be.

We have a better shot of the band replaying Lost Highway in its entirety for its 10th this tour.
Oh shit! What did I just do??!!!??!! |
Slippery When Wet wasn't played in its entirety in 2011 when it had its 25th anniversary, Richie still was on board and Jon could've pulled it off vocally. So I can't see it happening with NJ either...

Would be awesome, but I think there's a snowball's chance in hell of it happening. It would be the very definition of going out as a nostalgia act that Jon will never do.

But then again, this is the same person that suggested that these THINFS tour setlists are missing The Distance, so... |

Also - forgive me if im wrong, but is there anything more challenging vocally from that album that they don't already perform already, ie. Ill be there for you, bad medicine. 99 in the shade is the only song I can see Jon not only hating, but struggling to sing. |

Bad Medicine I'll Be There For You Born To Be My Baby Living In Sin Lay Your Hands On Me Plus songs like Blood On Blood, Homebound Train, Wild Is The Wind... I've seen this band many times over the last 20 years and just want something different. |
Doesn't New Jersey hold a record for having the most Top 10 singles off a hard rock album?

They didn't do it for SWW, so they're not going to do it for New Jersey.

As I stated it is a very important album. |
It's an important album but if they didn't do it with Slippery, I just don't see them doing it with NJ.
|
There were so many opportunities to play certain albums in its entirety and except Lost Highway during its own tour they haven't done it at all.
So I don't see why they should start doing it now without Richie and without Jon's voice. |
They came very close to doing it in full in 2001 at a random city in the US.
|
You think of Grand Rapids!?
Well, Born To Be My Baby, Wild Is The Wind, Living In Sin, Homebound Train, Bad Medicine and Blood On Blood in one show (and not during the NJ tour) was absolutely awesome. But I wouldn't call it getting close playing the album in its entirety. |

If they were ever gonna do a full album night of either SWW or NJ it was during the O2 shows in 2010. Jon even planted the seed for the idea prior to the tour but it never came to be.
I actually genuinely believed they were gonna do it. They only had to rehearse Without Love and Social Disease and they had a SWW night. Really a missed opportunity as Jon's voice really could have done it back then. |
I could imagine Phil X playing Homebound Train. And that's it.
|
Jon doesnt wanna dwell in the past. He wants to be taken as significant current day song writer.
This alone prevents any "anniversary tours". And its a shame. Everyone does them these days. But even if Jon doesnt admit it, Slippery + New Jersey are the most memorable albums of classic Jovi. |
