Where the hell is that square???
Until I saw this picture I didn't doubt maths:
http://autsch.rtl.de/dumm_gelaufen/p...es_quadrat.jpg Does anyone know how that can be? These are the same elements but they don't seem to have the same area in both pics - am I blind or why don't I see why? |
:? no idea
i always knew maths was worthless 8) |
not a clue!!! A Level maths didn't cover jigsaw puzzles :P

The area should be 32.5 and I can't really imagine that you should get two different solutions when you do it manually (was too lazy to do that now :?) What the heck is that? |
Ok, I tried integration and (ab)/2 but with both I only get 32.5 :bad-word:
|
tomorrow :? it's too late now ...... but i don't like when i can't understand something

I'm getting frustrated just by looking at the thing. I'm not too wild about math stuff. Not good at anything more complex than geometry. That's why I'm choosing a carear in rock 'n' roll.

This is pissing me off now, I've been looking at it for about an hour. I f I don't get it before I go to bed, then I ain't never gonna sleep!!

I've spent so much time with this picture, and it just keeps annoying me... I know someone once offered an explanation to me, but I can't remember it for the life of me.
It's best I don't even think about this sort of stuff... Just gives me a headache  |
The long side (hypotenuse lol, gotta love those dictionaries) of the triangle (the big one, with all four elements) isn't exactly a straight line (compare the sides of the red and dark green triangle, they don't have the same proportion). As you can see when you look good, in the picture above the 'hypotenuse' is slightly dented and in the picture on the bottom it sticks out a bit, that's why there's an open square all of a sudden ;).
