Arrange Marrage

Does any one beleive in it?. Here in India around 60 to 70% of marrages are arrange one. Even my both sisters had arange marrage and both very well settled now.
It may sound very strange, but most of these marrages are very succesful. Althoug i prefer Love marrage, I do not rule out the arrrange one.

I'm sure it is part of certain cultures, but no, I do not agree with it. I believe we should all have the freedom to choose our own partners and how can someone else tell me who I should marry? I'm the one who has to live with the person and maybe I don't like him.
I honestly can't believe that in this day and age this still happens. I think it is degrading to the woman and it assumes that women have no right or capability to decide for themselves. I'm not (really) a feminist but I do believe that men and women are equal and should be free to do what they want, be it work or where they live and also who they want to marry.

like it or not women and men aren't equal and probably never will be totally equal. not saying i agree with it or that its right but it is true, its just common mentality.

anyways as for arranged marriages it kinda defeats the whole -purpose of marrying for love in Gods home and all that jazz u know. from wot i gather its like a trade u know, a dowry or whatever just seems kinda wierd to me, ill give u my daughters hand in marriage for this this this and this? im not saying some of them aren't happy together but the main reason y theres hardly any divorces in arranged marriages is because its so hard for the woman to get one or she is scared of leaving.

So you're a freaky little green man, heh, Mike?

I suppose arranged marriages are alright - i mean, if its a part of someones cuture, I cant do anything about it. It is their culture. Just like how Americans eat cows. We dont all eat cows, but no one starts telling them that eating cows is the right way. And I know cows isnt anything up to the standards of living with someone for the rest of your life - cows just popped in my head, and I cant find a more better arguement (no matter how corny cows really are..).

Anyway..  I would much rather be married to someone I loved than to someone who I just met and have to make babies with. Im sure that most of the time, that love does come into the picture - it just must be so hard at first to get use to the idea of getting married when you are so young...

Do marriages in India still happen at young ages? I read books that said that marriages use to be when the girl was 14. Is this still common place? Or do they allow more flexibilty, such as: marrying when the girl is 19 or so?

Here India it is very common for arrange marrage and most guys and gals prefer it also. Here minimum age for marrage for Girls is 18 and guys are 21.
Here we don't have marrage as soon as it fixed, they let both boy and girl to know each other for some month like 4 ot 6 months, if every thing fine then only marrage go ahead. Here they fallin love after marrage.

i'm not saying i think it's fair or right that men and women still aren't equal but they are not and if u don't realise that then you're either missing something i'm not or just in denial.

an average built woman and a man apply for a job as a labourer. it will involve lifting heavy loads and alot of physical activity. who's going to get picked everytime?

there are more men politicians, lawyers, accountants, MD's etc... it's just fact that the world is not equal and yes whereas in some respect men and women are equal there is alot of instances where they are not equal.

And most of girls prefer the guys who has more superior Job, physicaly stronger and stronger personality. In other word they like them to dominat.

Jim Bon Jovi 05-08-2003 07:18 PM

i wouldn't say women like to be dominated by men but the majority of men are physically and mentally stronger than women. there are women that are stronger than men but they're few and far between.
