Adrian 07-05-2003 02:08 AM

Ok, next song is "Win Or Lose". Its about how the outcome of things in life don't matter, its what you do. Here's what I've got:

I can't hold on
Cause I know that I'll break
I've got nothing left
Left for you to take

You can hope
You can pray
But in the end, it doesn't matter
Cause all the good things have to change
It doesn't matter if you Win Or Lose
Its how you play the game

What'dya think?

Adrian

Adrian 07-08-2003 12:22 AM

Here's the whole chorus to Win Or Lose:

You can hope
You can pray
But in the end, it doesn't matter
Cause all the good things have to change
It doesn't matter if you Win Or Lose
Its how you play the game
All you try
It doesn't matter what you do
Its how you play the game
Not if you Win Or Lose

What do you guys think?

Adrian

gues sim a bit late on this one but i play guitar, bass, a bit of singing, keyboards, drums, piano, flute and percussion so i'm sure u can find a space for me :D

it's too late for me to remember any of my songs and lyrics off the top of my head since i only do backing vox for my band but not being big headed about it i can write a hook and a chorus with the best of them.

Just thought I'd compile our two finished songs so far:

Back Into Dry County
Lyrics by The Walrus and Adrian

The sand still haunts me
In every one of my nightmares
Breathing deep I still can taste
That dusty desert air
Would you ever go back into Hell
If you got the chance to leave?
Would you miss the pain
Miss the burnin' heat
Miss the people who can't breathe?
Walking out
It felt so clean
Like coming home
Just like a dream
But I couldn't stay away
I just couldn't stay gone
I left my soul in the fields
Its the place I belong
I'm riding day and night
On these wings of steel
Heading back for my destiny
All I've got are these two wheels
Riding day and night
On wings of steel

(Prechorus)

They wanted our blood for oil
But all that's in the past
I'm stronger now
Now I'm going back

(Chorus)

I'm going
Back Into Dry County
Heading back to the sands
Back Into Dry County
Back to where it all began
(Down in Dry County)
So many looking for a reason to live
Too many finding a reason to die
We gotta hang on
We gotta stay alive
(Down in Dry County)
No use tryin' to pretend
This is where it began
And this is where its gonna end

Countin' every second
Until I reack those fiery gates
Just tryin' to numb myself off so
The pain don't get too great
I know I can't escape it
Gotta burn down there again
Goin' back once more
Burning down the door
Gonna live inside my pain
Missing out
On all my dreams
Because they came up
With this scheme
But now I'm on that road again
I thought I could be strong
But I left my soul in the fields
In the place I belong
I'm paying back my sins
Just to stay alive
Heading back to face my demons
Hoping they'll let me survive
Paying back my sins
To stay alive

(Prechorus)

They wanted our blood for oil
But all that's in the past
I'm stronger now
Now I'm going back

(Chorus)

I'm going
Back Into Dry County
Heading back to the sands
Back Into Dry County
Back to where it all began
(Down in Dry County)
So many looking for a reason to live
Too many finding a reason to die
We gotta hang on
We gotta stay alive
(Down in Dry County)
No use tryin' to pretend
This is where it began
And this is where its gonna end

The howling wind of the desert
Can't match the howling in my mind
I can see the faces, the flames
Sometimes I wish it was me that died
My memories burn me
Every night I lay down to sleep
on the cold, hard ground
You ask why my bed is burning
It was on fire when I layed down

(Prechorus)

They wanted our blood for oil
But all that's in the past
I'm stronger now
Now I'm going back

(Chorus)

I'm going
Back Into Dry County
Heading back to the sands
Back Into Dry County
Back to where it all began
(Down in Dry County)
So many looking for a reason to live
Too many finding a reason to die
We gotta hang on
We gotta stay alive
(Down in Dry County)
No use tryin' to pretend
This is where it began
And this is where its gonna end

(Guitar Solo)

I saw the sign
Dry County limit
Never saw the car
But I felt the hit
Looking up into the sky
Now I know
This is it
And now it makes more sense to me
Finally it all fits
This is it
I'm Back In Dry County

I'll Do Anything For You
Lyrics by The Walrus and Adrian

Standin' here
Side by side
No one said it's an easy ride
Don't worry, cos I've got your back
Standin' tall
We're still free
Together we'll fight for the dream
One for all
and All for one
And all thats in between
Remember the old days
Shootin the breeze
Not carin' bout right or wrong
Seemed like everything
Was ours for the taking
Guess I should have known all along
This couldn't last forever

Prechorus:

Back then it seemed we were always winning
But now our teams been torn apart
I wish we could go back to the beginning
Can't you take us back to the start?

Chorus:
I swear, as I stand here
I'd Do Anything For You
Cos I know that you'd do the same for me
We can live and die together
But our fight will last forever
If you'll let me
I'll stand with you till the end
Because I call you friend

They say they honor loyalty
It don't look that way to me
But I'm not giving in
I won't let go of what I believe
For all the **** that we been through
I never let 'em change my mind
I'll always be here for you
We'll come through this side by side
I'll Do Anything For You
I remember when you said that to me
The worst day of my life
The day we parted, I lost a part of me

Prechorus:

Back then it seemed we were always winning
But now our teams been torn apart
I wish we could go back to the beginning
Can't you take us back to the start?

Chorus:
I swear, as I stand here
I'd Do Anything For You
Cos I know that you'd do the same for me
We can live and die together
But our fight will last forever
If you'll let me
I'll stand with you till the end
Because I call you friend

I know we're seperated
By time and space, laws and rules
But I swear I'll fight
I'll stand by you
I'd do anything for you
Anything at all
And that's the truth

(Guitar solo)

Its all I can do
I gotta stand by you

Cause when you're loyal to someone...

You can't help it

Prechorus:

Back then it seemed we were always winning
But now our teams been torn apart
I wish we could go back to the beginning
Can't you take us back to the start?

Chorus:
I swear, as I stand here
I'd Do Anything For You
Cos I know that you'd do the same for me
We can live and die together
But our fight will last forever
If you'll let me
I'll stand with you till the end
Because I call you friend

I dunno what it is, but I just don't like that chorus. There's something wrong with it that I can't put my finger on, and thats really annoying me. I think it has great potential, but theres just something weird there. And even worse, I can't think of any way to change it for the better. Gah. Let me have a think about this one. No offence intended by the way, it just doesn't appeal to me

r u guys actually writing songs for this?

i'll stick up the lyrics for the thing ive got kicking around regarding barry white dying and a couple of other ideas when i get it all down tomorrow hopefully.

it doesnt scan.....

the obnly way i can see of it getting more closely scanning is below but then i think its losing some of the meaning... which is also a bad thing.... tricky...

You can hope You can pray
But all good things have to change
It doesn't matter if you Win Or Lose
Its how you play the game today
All you try and all you say
It doesn't matter what you do
Its how you play the game...

Not if you Win Or Lose

of course... ive put a bit of a tune to it as well cause thats how i work, but in terms of scanning thats better (feel free to discard) but it might change some of the original sentiment.....

i dunno......
/me doesnt really like to comment...

I'd add "not if you Win Or Lose" on the end of that. If you did that, that'd be a perfect verse, I think.

Adrian

tawtami 07-10-2003 11:24 PM

it is there.... it was just a couple of lines down to emphasise the brak i hear it with when i oplay it in my head, but should only have been one line not two...
it works but id need to post the composition up to get it across fully...

kinda along the same lines as the "damn................. misunderstood" on misunderstood, but not like that if you get me... same concept...
grrr
me is probably confusing more than explaining...

Adrian 07-10-2003 11:31 PM

Oops. Sorry! :D

Adrian

tawtami 07-10-2003 11:45 PM

no probs! what do you think to that as an idea tho???
good?? bad???

Adrian 07-11-2003 02:07 AM

GOOD idea! Now we need some more verses for it. hmmm....I'll work on this...

Adrian

Jim Bon Jovi 07-11-2003 05:29 AM

how can the 2 of u write a song with no shared idea of a top line melody, key or rythmn?

dunno i was just reading over that and couldnt think of a rythmn to go with it so r u 2 just coming up with lyrics and making ur own interpretations of it or what?

Captain Walrus 07-11-2003 02:35 PM

Pretty much.... Lyrics first you know. Might not be brilliant, but it can be done

BTW, you two seem to be working well here so I'm gonna take a backseat on this one, unless you get stcuk and need me to save your asses once again!

Keep On Rockin'

tawtami 07-12-2003 02:15 AM

i guess in the same way kinda that other songwriting partnerships work.... just slightly more convoluted...
its the first time ive done it this way.. but for me i hear the song as i write it- hense it fits to my tune, but when i was parsing lyrics etc, i look for things like the meter (be it iambic quatramic or pentamic) and see if whts therefits into it,and other things like that... the kinda thing you learn from grade 7 music theory :S

This song has a potential to be a great song . I think you need to add little bit to more line to it.

jess 07-17-2003 01:00 PM

i like it Adrian

Adrian 07-17-2003 05:22 PM

Thanks Jess and Allmike! The song is far from finished (tawtami, where are you?) and I'm having some problems writing verses for it. The chorus is in second or third person, and my natural instinct is to write the verses in first, so its a little harder than usual. Walrus, got any comments?

Adrian

tawtami 07-18-2003 12:58 AM

i am here... just mildly distracted at the moment...
its late now and i need to get to bed so ill have a look in the mornign...
but ill have a play as i have some free time...

how do you envisage melody? jyst so i can like have a mental pic...
sara

Captain Walrus 07-18-2003 01:17 AM

Adrian, I think that you need to get over your thing of using the title in the verses and the chorus- don't use Win Or Lose in the first verse as well as the chorus. The chorus is much better now, although I'm thinking that there's nothing all that special about it.... the first verse needs a bit of work. I also think that this song has great potential, do me proud guys!

Also Adrian, I've come up for a really interesting idea for a project that I want to work on with you, and I'll give you the details as soon as I fine tune it a little.... but it will be very cool 8)

Adrian 07-18-2003 04:45 AM

Tawtami:I picture this to be a hard, pounding rock song. Real hard. Though if that doesn't appeal to you, feel free to change that. Harder than HMU is what I have in mind.
Walrus:What's this project? Are we going to write for an actual musician?

I'm agree with Walrus, you don't need to put win or lose in verses. It is better if you put like
winner not always win
losser not always lose.

tawtami 07-18-2003 02:47 PM

cool, thanks for that- info much appreciated and useful... im gonna play around with itas i wait for exposed (one of my ballads) to upload - btw, if anyone wants it pm me...

can reveal a bit about the distractions now....

basically, we ve got a provisional date to do some recording that should work for the duo im half of... its nice cause we have complete control cause were basically borrowing the three pieces of equipment we dont currntly own to do it...

also have had a spate of new songs arrive for me cause of stuff thats happened with being ill....
(if i get round to recording at some point, i could use some muso's who'd be up for it... ) anyone interested.. it will prolly be next summer i guess as people tend to be free in summer...

so yeah all of that tied up with hospital visits etc, but im back now... for a while anyhow... however- i do go away next saturday morning for a week.. and then im house sitting but am v close to uni so have got a 5 meg pipe with noone on it down the road :D so will be around mainly daytimes, as opposed to now when am at home and on at night
so yeah... ill come back in a lil while to see whats what...hopefully with new thing.. amn keeping track of all sugestions...

sara

tawtami 07-18-2003 03:08 PM

k, have taken the title out of the first verse and replaced that and changed a couple of words in other places to make it scan.
the chorus's look has changed slightly but only that - that was just a personal thingy as to how im hearing it at the moment. feel free to put it back...
i dunno what do people think?

Well, I wrote the end of the song:

All the struggle
All your pain
Don't you think
It was in vain
When all of this is though
It doesn't matter if you Win Or Lose
Its how you've played the game

Tawtami:I'd like to go back a bit on my hard rock song description. Picture crossing Undivided or Hey God with The Distance. Something with heavy guitar and drums, but slower sounding verses, then soaring choruses. That's what I imagine.

Adrian

allmike 07-19-2003 12:19 PM

Great work guys. :P
So walrus what is the big suspense?.

tawtami 07-19-2003 08:44 PM

thats fine with me!!!!

thats actually how id heard it to start with which was why the choruses were laid out how they were....

and yeah i can hear that working....well...
:)

allmike 07-20-2003 11:55 AM

If more people would have joind this group, we would have great team. :D

Adrian 07-21-2003 03:33 AM

How bout this as the last bit in the first verse?

Not all winners win
And not all losers lose
Sometimes it'll be hard
But the price to win is truth

And here's another bit:

It won't help to complain
Our words are all in vain
Just try and remember
The only thing that's up to you
Is how you play the game

What do you guys think?

Adrian

Adrian 07-21-2003 03:35 AM

Also, if we don't have a lead singer, you guys might want to try asking Iceman to take a look at what we've got. He'd be great!

Adrian
