Fight Club - The Novel

Has anyone else read it?

There is one paragraph which I find to be very true to our lives:

"For thousands of years, human beings had screwed up and trashed and crapped on this planet, and now history expected me to clean up after everyone. I have to wash out and flatten my soup cans. And account for every drop of used motor oil.
And I have to foot the bill for nuclear waste and buried gasoline tanks and landfilled toxic waste dumped a generation before I was born."

There are many other things in this book that are like that, very frank but very true.

"Recylcing and speed limits are bullsh!t," Tyler said. "They're like someone who quits smoking on his deathbed"

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes. We work jobs we hate so we can buy sh!t we don't need"

Some of the things that Tyler says are insane, but some of them, like the ones above, are very true, but we do nothing about it.

That how he says it in the movie.

Also a cool quote: "Once you've lost everything you are free to do anything."

I just found some transcript stuff:

The book - "You have a class of young strong men and women, and they want to give their lives to something. Advertising has these people chasing cars and clothes they don't need. Generations have been working in jobs they hate, just so they can buy what they don't really need."

The movie - "Advertisements have them chasing cars and clothes, working jobs they hate so they can buy sh!t they don't need. We are the middle children of history, with no purpose or place. We have no great war, or great depression. The great war is a spiritual war. The great depression is our lives. We were raised by television to believe that we'd be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars -- but we won't. And we're learning that fact. And we're very, very pi55ed-off."

I think it must be a while since you saw the movie.

That's not how he says it in the movie. He says;
"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate to buy shit we don't need."
There's lots of great lines in the movie, but that is probably the best.

I don't remember how he said it in the book. That book is one of the times when the movie is better. The book is okay, but the movie is ****ing fantastic.

We are God's unwanted children. So be it!!

That's one of my other favorite quotes, although I'm not sure if I know it exactly.

Tyler: "You need to realize God never wanted you. He doesn't like you. In fact he probably hates you. This isn't the worst thing that could happen."
Jack: "It isn't?"
Tyler: "We're God's unwanted children so be it. We don't need him."
