R.I.P. Gösta Sundqvist :(

For any of the Finns here who care... Gösta Sundqvist, the singer and song-writer of Leevi and the Leavings and the mastermind behind Koe-eläinpuisto, Teinitalo and a handful of other hilarious radio shows, died of a heart attack last night at home in Espoo. :cry:

Rest in peace, Gösta. Your work will be remembered.

I have no idea who this person is. I just wanted to say that my sister lives in Espoo! 8) Small world, isn't it?

I care. One of the great Finnish songwriters if not the greatest. I never listened to his radio shows but I've heard the records. I was a sad little boy last night when I heard about this.

I care too. :( I'm at work for the first day today, and the radio station they've got on here (SuomiPop) has been playing Leevi and the Leavings songs all day... And just now they're obviously having some special Leevi and the Leavings hour, cause there has been nothing else on in the past half an hour or so. Teuvo Maanteiden Kuningas, Poika Nimeltä Päivi, Vasara ja Nauloja, Vakosamettihousuinen Mies, Pohjois-Karjala, Rin Tin Tin, Mitä Kuuluu Marja-Leena, Laura Jenna Ellinoora, Muotitietoinen... All those classics, and many many more. :(

I also used to listen to Gösta's radio shows quite often. Koe-eläinpuisto was a classic, and Teinitalo was on YleQ right before my weekly dose of Ulmanen on Friday nites. A few years ago, the late RadioMafia re-played one of Gösta's older shows during the day when I was at work, and I remember having many many hilarious moments when listening to the show.

Somehow I feel that it hasn't even quite sunk in yet that Gösta is really gone now. He will definitely be greatly missed. :cry:

I know that's besides the point but Laura went to Espoo today :)

Even though I didn't know him or his radio shows much, I felt Leevi and The Leavings part of Finnish (modern) culture. We always played them in car on our way to cabin or other summer trips. He'll be greatly missed.
