Do you believe in social class?
or do yr parents?
for my parents it does, and they wont let my brother marry (he is 28 by the way) cos of social class...and the family will probs now be split up...so i just wondered if ppl here are as backward as my parents? i mean didnt this crap end decades ago? i understand how indians generally really get into the tradion...but social class is discrimination. |
Yes, I believe it does and always will exist. The brother of my best friend fell in love with a chinese girl and wanted to marry her. His parents said they would disown him if he did. Their reason? They didn't want rejects for grandchildren. He did marry her and they moved across country and now have no relationship with his parents. It's a no win situation for everyone involved.
IMO, if you love someone, it shouldn't matter what race, religion, social class etc. they are. However, there are many people (especially from my parents generation) who do not share that view. |

you know what, if i fell in love with someone and i was happy i wouldn't be bothered what my parents think, i went out with a girl about 2 years ago who was not the best looking girl in the world but she made me really happy, my mum passed comment and i told her that i was happy, aslong as that matters thats all. I don't go out there and look for a size 8 supermodel, if the girl of my dreams is 20 stone, aslong as i'm happy then i don't care. As for inter racial reltaionships, we all bleed the same colour blood and just because i might believe in a god and my partner might believe in Allah then so what!!! religion causes so much trouble these days its worth questioning its purpose.
I don't belive in social class, i'm from a working class family, i'm proud of it, i have been told i'm posh but i'm not, i have manners thats all!!! |
of course it exists. it might no be as blatant as it was say 100 years ago but it's still underlying.
thing is it;'s usually middle class people that are the problem. my modern studies teacher was talking about the class system once and said. working class are happy where they are, upper class are happy where they are, it;s middle class people trying to act and be upper class that create the problem which i think is pretty true. i'm working class, just a fact of life, i'm proud of what i am not what class ic ome from. my girlfriend is well spoken and polite and lives in a really nice house but her parents are just as working class than my family, u know. u can have all the money in the world and still act like a reject whereas u can be poor as sin and still have class. i'm actually kinda worried about when i graduate cos accountancy isn;t exactly the most common of trades and think ill have problems because i speak glaswegian and call myself Jim instead of james. as far as i'm concerned we're all pretty much in the same boat so should keep our heads down and get on with it. my sister was going out with oe of my mates who happened to be a Catholic a while ago and my dad wasn't too happy but kept his mouth shut most of the time to keep the peace. in all fairness i think he's a bit of a dick for it but it's hard to instantly get rid of an idealogy u've held from since u were a kid u know. |
