'Dead' Man Revives After Night in Morgue
Fri August 22, 2003 09:06 AM ET HANOI (Reuters) - An elderly Vietnamese man thought to have died in a hospital revived after spending the night in the morgue, state media and a doctor said on Friday. Nguyen Van Quan, 73, was declared dead and taken to a Ho Chi Minh City hospital morgue on the night of August 15 but was found alive by his daughter the next morning as she was retrieving the body for the funeral, the Vietnam News daily said. "I was shocked and frightened when I saw the blanket that covered my father moving," Quan's daughter was quoted as saying. "When the morgue's officials pulled back the blanket, my father's eyes moved, brightening with joy." A doctor at the Nguyen Tri Phuong hospital, where Quan had been admitted after complaining of chest pain, told Reuters: "He is now still in the emergency section." After Quan's heart failed and he was declared dead, the man was placed in the morgue where he was laid for seven hours among corpses. The doctor declined to elaborate on the case but said investigations into the incident were under way. BOUNCE, Ryan |

Scary!
I saw some sort of documentary on tv some time ago which featured a lady who had been pronounced dead by doctors for several times in her life already. She had some sort of disease which made her look completely dead, even without a noticeble heartbeat! So she had the nice experience of waking up in a morgue a couple of times... But at least it was in the morgue - not the coffin! Creepy subject! |
I've heard about things like this, where people have woken up as they where being lowered into their graves.
Perhaps coffins should be equipped with mobile phones and food and water supplies, just in case. |

I've seen programmes like that and that is definitely one reason why I want to be cremated. I've seen bodies being exhumed and on the inside of the coffin there are scratches where people have tried to get out and it happens a lot more than people think.. Cremation for me.. at least I'll die being burned!

Back in the old days they didn't know how to tell if someone was dead, so they put a bell on the side of the grave with a chain attached and it ran into the coffen so if the person wasn't dead and woke up.. He or she could ring the bell so someone could come and dig them up before they died...

Edgar Allan Poe had the same disease i think, he would have fits and would appear to be dead, all the blood moved from the surface to protect his organs therefore appear blue and his breathing was very laboured. If you read his books most of them have an underlying theme to being buried alive
My next door neighbour had to dig up some graves when they built a bypass beside me and he dug up one grave which looked like the person had a bit of a struggle in the coffin, imagine that waking up in a coffin knowing you can't get out. I heard that some people ask to be buried with their mobile phones incase they are buried alive!!!! |
Some mobile companies will make a fortune with coverage under ground!!
