Poll: Jovitalk Christmas Do
It called.... streamlining!!
So: AN expensive Jam. We all bring an instrument & have a jam: Pro's: 1) A chance to exercise our ego's 2) If we nail it it'd be more fun than a tribute band Con's: 1) Equipment haulage (could hir some locally for the event) 2) If we don't nail it - it'll be less fun than a tribute band - arguments. A Cover Band: Pro's 1) It'll appeal to more ppl than insturment players 2) We can sit back & get drunk & know we'll get quality BJ Con's 1) Expensive 2) U can see a cover band anywhere.... (albeit without the DC crew) A Piss Up - We just meet somewhere & get drunk: Pro's 1) Easy to arrange 2) Nuff said Con's 1) No centre point for if we all hate each other We should not bother: - u can work to Pro's & Con's of this one out yourself |

okay... it wont be as good as last time but never mind... okay, firstly, the idea that you call it an expensive jamming session suggests that you are against it as a possibility, which is not good as pol's should be as objective as possibly without creating hidden bias. secondly, it wouldnt be that expensive, and whilst requiring a bit more organisation than just a straight piss-up, (which to be honest doesnt hold much attraction especially if you travel the length of the country to get there... ) would actually be more fun and much less expensive than hiring a coverband. thereare many pubs which will hire you the room for free, at least there definately are in sheffield, and some other cities ive been to.. without organisation you would end up with 23 guitars and nothing else prolly so if you think about it.... work out a venue... for this example im gonna use sheffield cause its familar and i know what im saying goes here... okay, so you have sheffield, you get afree room ere no problem, bed and breakfasts are cheap, i can provide some floor space, etc (cant speak for goose there) i have a PA system (which incidentally would be willing to take elsewhere if someone could transport it as i cant) which means we wouldnt need to hire anything. thenyou organise a 'band' ie the instruments... for something big, this would be an acoustic guitar, and electric guitar, bass, keys and drums and 2 vox within that. for somethign smaller you could go with an acoustic guitar, keys and bass. that was you have the instruments and potentially a band to play them, and also the possibility of swapping around people as its a static set up. if you were to hold it in sheffield, there could easily be a practice (at mine or i a prac room wihch are cheap) first so its not totally spontaneous and possibly a mess and also that way its less formal and if it goes wrong it dont matter. now whatever happens ie where etc, if you went with the jamming idea i can provide the following: 2 PAspeakers, acoustic guitar, 2 mic's (possibly a powered mix, possibly not) maybe a bass and bassist and drummer if required (though the conditions there would be that we dont become a bon jovi tribute band) if someone can help transport, maybe someone travelling near sheffield en route to wherever it happens.. at the end of the day it would be a laugh whether or not it works out perfectly and peopel would be happy and it woudl actually givethe event a purpose other than a piss up or seeing a cover band, which as aforementioned you could do anywhere albeit without the DC crew... it all sounded a bit more well thought out the first time i wrote it but hey... those were roughly my thoughts on it. the other possibility although its a bit earlier than xmas is that By Jovi are playing the boardwalk in sheffield sometime november/december and ppl could come for that and crash somewhere |
