I guess I was kinda harsh but my opinion isn't gonna change sadly.

It's just kinda irritating to think that a great guitar band like Metallica would abandon doing solos and stuff cause lets face it, there aren't that many bands around today who have great guitarists. :?

Well the fact that some people here don´t agree with you doesn´t mean that they´re trying to start a war on this board. Different people like different things. And you DID notice that smiley after I said that you suck?! Hopefully anyway.

They've certainly "experimented" alright!

The album is doing surprisingly well, but i reckon it's only because it's Metallica

To think it had been 6 years since their last album, but it sounds like the album was put together within the space of a week! (if that! )

I don't see how people feel that BJ - Bounce was a disapointment (which IMO is not  ) when a great guitar/metal churns out something like St Anger :?

The black album is overrated & isn't classic Metallica IMO. It is very heavy, however it has some amazing songs on it:

Sandman
Sad but True
Holier than Thou
Unforgiven (amazing)
Nothing else Matters
Whereever I may Roam
Of Wolf & Man.

Actually - not bad at all really, however u do have to be in the mood for it.

If u want to get into Metallica though - listen to S&M. Sounds far better than the studio tracks & the orchestra behind it takes off that heavy & 'muddy' edge that put alot of ppl off when they listen to the studio albums.

Also - if covers the whole range of songs, the first album excluded (Kill Em All)

Yeah I heard Metallica are a good live band. I have an MP3 of a track called "No Leaf Cover". It's brilliant and is not what I thought Metallica would be like. They are certainly very talented, and the studio version of Enter Sandman is very good to. It's just a shame that most of the tracks on the black album tend to be heavy (which is not bad unless it's well written), but have very similar guitar riffs and vocals, which suggest it may not have been well written with the band struggling for different ideas, etc. I need to listen to it more though. Maybe they are a band which will grow on me.

Im not a huge Metallica fan, but I do like most of the songs off the black album. I heard St. Anger for the first time recently but I dont like it at all.
