Runway and In And Out of Love make me cringe. Especiall In and Out Of Love when the band are playing on stage. Apart from that the video is ok, and it's funny how the guys are keeping a low profile by hiding behind newspapers, etc, and I love it when Jon is on the beach with his guitar and a girl comes and kicks sand at him. :D

only lonely video is so stupid, i dont like it at all, but i sure love Silent night video, except the look of the band, but the whole video is just great, its in my top 5 favorite videos...

most of their videos back then were so stupid... :?

I downloaded this clip from a show one time where they were talking about the Only Lonely video. They are all going on about how like it was so bad and the person who was watching it had like no idea what was going on...it was really funny, they just show everyone and they are just giving this look with their eyebrows raised, it was great.
I thought it was really really confusing. I'm like, "Okay so...what the hell's happening now??" I haven't seen the Runaway video in a really long time...the only thing that sticks out to me is that the girl really got on my nerves and the clothes were horrible, even for the 80's. I thought the In and Out of Love video was hilarious. Does anyone know where they filmed it? because it looks like NJ...but it might not be so does anyone know for sure? I liked the "She Don't Know Me" video, that was cute. Most of their earlier videos just consist of them playing the song on stage, but I like them anyway. |

Like I said though all the early videos are still fun to watch, its shows how much the bands progressed, whod have thought watching terrible videos like that theyd still be around 20 years later and sold nearly 100 mil albums. Finally, Steve Guttenburg was the one in the silent night video with the moustach, in leather, with a headband on. |

If memory serves me right....Silent Night was never released to video outlets. It was a home video release only, just as Wild in the Streets and Blood on Blood were. It did get aired later on MTV....much later....on Bon Jovi Sunday during the New Jersey period. So it couldn't do anything to bring attention to the band regardless of the quality of the video. But that video is actually pretty high quality considering it was 1985. Watch any other video from even Artists that were huge at the time and see how much better their videos were. Both In and Out of Love and Silent Night were a big leap ahead for Bon Jovi compared to the god awful video for Runaway...you wanna talk cheese...drag that one out. I'm sure it does make a difference though for those of us who watched these videos when they were brand new. Saw the world premieres and witnessed them going up and down the video charts as opposed to fans who are basically doing the equivalent of looking at baby pictures of someone they just met relatively recently. On topic, Only Lonely was a freakin mess! Just about everyone who has seen it says the same thing..they think it's from some movie they never heard of and so did I. In a way it makes it engaging..but it's overkill really. Who'd have thought they'd create another video that has nothing to do with the song with Always, 10 years later. That is not Steve Guttenberg in the video, sorry. |

Il have to take another look at the video for OL but i was 99% sure that it was Steve Guttenburg. |

Then there are the facts.....Steve Guttenberg was a star at that point. One of the more in demand ones at the time. A star of his stature simply does not take an almost invisible role in a music video, especially by a band that has yet to make a name for itself in the States. There is no connection between any of the band members and Steve Guttenberg that would suggest he would agree to do it as a favor or whatever. Then there is the fact that the Bon Jovi camp routinely credits actors who have appeared in their videos who are recognizable names and even less so. Not once has Steven Guttenberg been mentioned. Jack Noseworthy, an actor no one gives a crap about except for teen girls who think he's supposed to be a young Jon Bon Jovi, gets plenty of credit by the Bon Jovi camp for his role in Always. Why would he get the credit he does while Steve Guttenberg, a lead billing actor, is never mentioned? These are rhetorical questions.....I do not need answers. I'm simply pointing out the absurdity of the notion that Steve Guttenberg, a big name comedy actor in 1985, appeared in a decidely serious nondescript role as a mob man/gangbanger/whatever in a music video by a relatively unknown band and has never been credited or mentioned as appearing in the role. |
That is not Steve Guttenburg. I don't think that guy looks at all like Steve Guttenburg. As for the video, it's cheesy. But that good cheesy that many 80's videos had. I like it.

Bon Jovi has never really done "cheesy" Videos. Runaway is about the only one that qualifies as a low-budget-cheesy-even-for-the-times video. They've been pretty consistent with putting out upper tier videos. She Don't Know Me comes close..but mostly its an example of making the best out of what you have to work with. A video qualifies as cheesy when you watch other music videos from the same period and notice the quality of them are better than the one in question. But if it's uniform....then it probably wasn't cheesy. There is no music video or movie in the world that isn't going to look dated 20 years later. It's fine to have your opinion....but when sweeping statements like that are made about a time period you didn't live..it only shows your ignorance as opposed to an educated opinion. It's great younger fans try to play catch up....but they also need to learn to understand what they are seeing or hearing when it comes to music and videos that are before their time. |

Oh and to call someone un-educated just because they have a different opinion to you shows how arrogant you are.

I said Ignorance, not uneducated. Jon doesn't like videos..period. His being embarassed has nothing to do with the relative quality of the videos. What you said only proves Stifler's comment. Yeah, you can watch the more recent videos and say "look how far they have come." Because the more recent videos use production standards that exist now. These videos will look just as "cheesy" in 15 years. But you may not see it so readily because you are actually experiencing those videos as brand new. THEN you'll understand what some of us are saying when some kid is pointing at your favorite Bon Jovi video from 2000 being shown in 2015 and he's laughing and saying how CHEESY it is and how everything in 2000 was Cheesy. You'll see how it is dated by that point..but you'll also see it for what it was and not try to hold it to 2015 production standards. |
