Island and Mercury records
 

Ok, i've got a question. I became a bon jovi fan when crush came out, so although i do know a lot about the band before 2000, i don't exactly know everything. so, what i wanna know is, why does it say that they were on Mercury records on all their other cds, but then for Crush, OWN and now Bounce it says they're on Island records. How come they switched record companys?? Did something go wrong? I know they fired Doc Magee their old manager, but that was back in the early 90's i though. anyways, if anyone knows the answer to this, please please tell me. it's just one of those questions that's been bugging me, so. anyways,

They originally were at Polygram. This company was bought by Universal/Island. Mercury was a part of Polygram and BJ-are at Mercury all over the world exept of in the USA where Mercury doesn't exist anymore.

So BJ never changed their record company but the record company was bought by bigger ones. That's why the name changed.

Mercury Records were an arm of Polygram records who Bon Jovi were signed to.
Universal Music bought Polygram and its subsidiaries a few years ago.
Bon Jovi are now on with Island/Def Jam Records which is under the (rather large) wing of Universal.
In short, the major record companies have all these minor arms below them.
As far as Doc MCGhee goes, he was their manager in the BIG years, got busted for some major dope trafficking etc etc.
JBJ and the boys, after almost falling apart in the late 1990s, decided a clean slate was needed if the band was to have a future, Doc got the flick and BJM (Bon Jovi Management) was formed.

An interesting tidbit I saw the other day was that when Universal bought out Mercury/Polygram, they dropped 400 of the 430 artists on that label. Bon Jovi was one of only 30 that remained.
