What I heard about the new album on Pierre's radio show
WMMR in Philly
I listened to Pierre's interview on Soul Day and with all the excitement about the team, my own crazy day ending with my Jon close encounter, and the baby news I am not sure if anyone posted stuff they said about the new album First of all about Last Man Standing- I posted this on the other thread about how this song was based on someone like Dylan or Bruce who just get out there and go on stage with their guitar and sing contrasted to today's pop scene. The day this was recorded Johnny Cash died, another last man standing eerily enough. There is a female singer on this album- she is the wife of Pat Leonard the producer. They were looking for someone like Annie Lennox but on their time table they couldn't get anyone "big" so Pat sent Jon her tapes and he liked her. She adds a bluesy Norah Jones type quality to a couple tracks apparently by Jon's description- she is on LOAP (being Gina maybe?) and I think Wanted. The main thing is this started out as an unplugged album and became something else hence the name- sounds like exotic instrumentations. Pierre asked if the fans when they come to a concert now would be confused about what version they want and Richie cracked if they show up in cocktail dresses or a cravat they want the new version. I am very psyched for this album- sounds very different, very mature, and I think it will be a real surprise. Hope I remembered it all- if anyone wants to add anything feel free. Val Frodo: "What are we holding on to, Sam?" Sam: "That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for." |
I really hate the woman idea........ is this a rock 'n' roll band...... ?

Well...from everything I've heard now...I'm in the perfect frame of mind to receive this album. If it turns out to be a load of crap...I won't be surprised, and therefore, not disappointed much either. If it turns out to be great, I'll be happy. No lose situation for me then.

At least it will be different. They did not set out to make this for any other reason it seems than art. We have had complaints about them trying to be too pop to keep up with the stuff on the radio. This seems to be the opposite direction- seems they made an album they were not afraid to experiment with. It also seems like a very adult album- more something for adult alternative radio than Top 40. Even if it misses the mark at least no one complain they are stuck in a rut.

don't know what to expect. but i'd rather prefer if they do something different, even if i don't like it. i couldn't stand again prayer acoustic like they did on crossroads.
boys, surprise us! |
good news
Listen, we've been criticising BJ for yonks on here not not taking risks with the live shows, for doing the same thing over and over again, for playing 'bad name' when they could play other stuff, the last two albums have been bog standard rock albums that aren't a patch on anything they have recorded post-slippery
all of a sudden we have a chance at hearing something new, something different, and still people are moaning If you don't like it, sit at home and listen to endless loops of Bad Medicine/Shout and Sleep When I'm Dead!! The rest of us will be enjoying something new and fresh from a band who haven't surprised us since 'These Days'! |
Im glad they are doing something different on this album. While I liked Crush and thought Bounce was ok, Im glad they are taking a different path and not producing another mediocre Luke Ebbin produced pop rock album that the majority of people here wont like much.
I like the way it seems to be turning out with this album. All the time, people say Bon Jovi are little more than an 80's hair band that should "go back to the eighties" . I think they are better musicians than people give them credit for and they are capable of producing quite a diverse range of music. They've shown this though their solo projects and more mature sounding albums like These days and in a way, Crush. Bounce didn't really take the band in any new direction IMO like These Days did so Im really hoping for a surprise with this new album. I hope it shows the band at their most creative but still has that BJ sense of fun about it. Whatever it turns out to be, I just hope its good and proves that the band havn't dried up their creativity. I know they still have it, I just hope they prove it with this album and they can still produce great music that doesn't have that "radio friendly" sound. |
