Bounce Review

I posted this on Backstage, but I wanted to post it here as well... Perhaps between the few boards, SOMEONE will read it!

It's really tough for Bon Jovi to disappoint me - and though it may be a biased opinion as, due to past recordings by the band, I am really adament about them being my favorite band of all time - I can sincerely say that to me every single tune on Bounce is absolutely fabulous... Perhaps this fact makes me a bad "critic", but I cannot express a negative opinion when I am failing to find one in my heart. I do agree that the album is a somewhat slower paced record - it's not AS rock and roll as it could be.... The B-sides are incredible and when I listen to them I can't help but wonder HOW the band decides which songs make the cut, and which don't.... The album preaches a lot for love - and I think we all have a certain extra special respect for the term considering what our country has been through this past year... (That comment obviously directed more towards Americans)

I'll just comment on the main 12 tracks for now:

"Undivided" is an extremely STRONG song in both lyric, vocals, and music... I stated in a post on September 11th that this song helped me get thru the day and I still stand by that thought... It has a STRONG message - and I like that.

"Everyday" - as everyone seems to be saying - is definitely "It's My Life" Part 2... It is the typical motivational, soulsearching Bon Jovi tune that we have come to expect out of Bon Jovi albums.... I am a big fan of motivational quotation, thus, I really enjoy songs preaching that you CAN do anything and to follow your dreams....

"The Distance" is another song telling us to "never give up" and combined with the music - I love it. It gives me that feel of "Destination Anywhere" - a thought that I myself follow. No matter how far away something might seem, we can always reach our goal if we try.

If there is one song that I'm semi so-so about, I suppose it would have to be "Joey". It's a cute song, but I don't find a strong message behind it. But then, I don't think the song is intending on getting a message across as much as it is one of the fun, storytelling type tunes.

"Misunderstood" is one of my favorite songs off the album - though that's not saying much! :P I love the music, I love the words, I just love the song. It isn't so much one that I can personally relate to in personal situations to date, but it is one that, oddly, breaks my heart. Everyone makes mistakes in life. This song expresses forgiveness - something that everyone needs to follow.

"All About Loving You" is your typical Bon Jovi ballad, and being that I am a big romantic at heart, I find it to be completely breathtaking. It gives me hope that perhaps one day, someone will feel this way about me - and I will feel that way about them.... I am a believer in soulmates. The song is simply gorgeous and brings a tear to my eyes...

I LOVE the music in "Hook Me Up".... I found it to be catchy when I first heard it in Times Square, and I still stand by that. The guitar work is tremendous. The lyrics give you a sort of "hope" and makes you realize that we all are equal - we all go thru the same things in life.. The same struggles.. The same passions... And no matter how much we feel like we are falling - there is always something to reach out for and pick us back up.

"Right Side of Wrong" is one of those songs that makes you stop and think about choices you make in life... Our hearts might be in the right place, but our actions might not reflect this fact.... Tis a song that I think we all can relate to in some way as I'm sure we've all made "bad" choices in life - and Richie is all over this one which I LOVE. :)

"Love Me Back To Life" is another one of those songs we can relate to when we feel like we can't go on... We reach out for those around us - we ask for them to rescue us, even if not actually asking it. It's a strong song - and another one Richie kicks @ss on!

"You Had Me From Hello", though some to be critcal of, I think it is adorable. As I said, I'm the ultimate romantic, and the thought of finally having a relationship - a commitment like is expressed in the song - is one I long for. I think it's a beautiful, extremely relaxing song with a sweet sentiment.

"Bounce" is just plain FUN! I love it all around.. The music rocks, the lyrics rock, the message rocks... It's definitely a BOUNCIN' song! NOTHING and NOONE can keep us down - we ALWAYS bounce back!

I'm not sure why the bad reviews on "Open All Night"... It's a cute song - not so much a strong message, but it doesn't always have to be STRONG. I'm sure it was chosen primarily because of the ties with "Ally", but I like it... It might be a little TOO slow though...

Overall, I give the album 4.9 (is that possible? lol) out of 5 stars... Like I said, maybe that makes me a bad critic, but I'm not going to lie and make things up to be more critical -- I can't help what I like and I REALLY like this album! Richie is all over the album (though I think his potentail can be stretched even more), and Jon's singing is amazing as usual. Add Huey, Dave, and Tico into the mix and you have the COMPLETE recipe for a totally AWESOME concoction!
