I'm mad!!!!
OK, so I get out of work tonight and get into my car. I turn on the radio to my favorite station like I always do. My radio is usually pre-set to it. Commercial is on, so I flip the stations around and end up back where I started. All of a sudden, this shitty hip hop r&b crap comes on! Apparently, they have changed their format to hip hop. This was the only radion station in Tampa that played the music I like to listen to. I like stuff like Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Sister Hazel, Counting Crows, etc. Now, there are three radio stations that play rap/hip hop/r&b. Does one market need that many radio stations that play to the same market?? I even went to their website to see if maybe they just switched to a different frequency...but NO! Just a change in format! So, it's now official. Tampa radio sucks!

I sympathize Jenn. A lngtime rock station here in the tri-state area went hip hop a year or two ago. I mourned it's passing - and had to reprogram my radio. :(

I hear ya. It happened so often, I finally gave up radio completely.
It is soo hard to find a good station and even then, they only have certain hours when they play rock  Now, I can count the times a month I listen to radio on one hand. Hope you find an alternative soon. |
Which station are you talking about Kathleen? It was probably one of the many stations I used to listen to that have since "died".
There was an awesome rock/alternative station in CT but a few months ago they changed their format to, in their words, "all rap all day." It was strange because it was a VERY popular station and the only one of its kind in the area, while there were already more than enough rap stations. |

WNEW-FM started broadcasting in 1958, featuring a pop format until 1967. In late 1967, a progressive rock format was introduced, influencing generations of rock listeners. The AOR (Album Oriented Rock) format shifted to an Alternative Rock format in 1995-96, back to AOR in 1996-97, and then to a Classic Rock format in 1997-99. On September 13, 1999, WNEW completed phasing out its rock music programs and introduced a weekday talk/personality "Hot Talk" format. The "Hot Talk" format was discontinued on January 26, 2003, and a CHR format was introduced on April 10, 2003 as "Blink 102.7". The station shifted to an Adult Contemporary format on September 12, 2003. Notice all the shifts in the 90's - that's when the Clear Channel station Q104.3 came into being. That's the one Jon was DJ on recently. I tuned into him but I avoid Clear Channel if at all possible. Now I mostly listen to CDs - I do miss hearing new stuff I might not have heard by listening to the radio. Kathleen |
There have been a few radio station in Toronto that have changed formats. Ciss 92 was a country station and became Kiss 92, a pop station. Recently though, much to my liking, Kiss became Jack FM. No deejays, just music! And they play Bon Jovi which is a bonus!!!
