Guardian Review UK
This is the review of Bounce from the Guardian:
When successful rock bands update their sound to match contemporary trends, everything tends to sound too clinical and expensive. It's like buying a £1,000 leather jacket when you are 50 to make yourself look younger - except young people can't afford £1,000 leather jackets. Once-legendary melodicists Bon Jovi have tried to go all grunge in this album's few uptempo numbers, but it's grunge with AM-radio-friendly pop production: the guitars are too quiet, the vocals too loud. At least first single Everyday, with its power chords and funky drumming, is reminiscent of the band's last great moment, Keep the Faith (though not nearly as good), and Love Me Back to Life sees Richie Sambora riffing away with a terrific Van Halen-esque swagger. But for most of the record Jon Bon Jovi sounds puzzlingly like Elvis Costello or Elton John, and sugary ballads predominate, with Bruce Hornby-like piano intros and tasteful acoustic-guitar lines leading to swollen, meaningless choruses. Points for weirdness go to the death-metal chugging of Hook Me Up, a paean to a Palestinian ham-radio operator. hmmm...what do u think? Im puzzled as to when Jon ever sounded like Elton John - can anyone name a specific song? Has anyone read a positive review of the album yet? Or should it be something I should be used to by now? |
The guardian will be p*****d 'cos the Daily Mail got to promote capital FM & they didn't (which might explain the DM's more positive review).
PS - I think Jon has a very unique voice & would be struggling to sound like Elvis Costello :? Mike |
*scratchs head*
Elton John? Was that reporter listening to Jon cinging I wonder? |
GRUNGE? That is like SO 1992! Did this guy even listen to the CD? And is he aware that the grunge phase died out years ago and it's really not the thing anyone who followed trends would be going after? He tries to insult the guys by saying they're being all grungy to keep with the times and he's not even with it. LOL

I don't think the Guardian will be pissed. I dont think they will care whether they got the rights to the gig or not. Be realistic. Think realisticly, and not as a fan of the band.
