Remembrance

They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them

All gave some,
Some gave all,
Some came through for the red, white and blue,
Some had to fall,

And if you ever think of me,
Think of all your liberties,
And recall,
And recall,
That some gave all,

even though i intend to get absolutely smashed 2moro night and it's my birthday on Sunday i'll still be draggign myself out of bed to get to church and the Cenotaph.

[ .if it wasnt for those brave people we wouldnt have the life we have today and i dont just mean the men that went to fight also the women that stayed and carried on with the country. i always give as much as i can to the poppy sellers and it makes me sick that idiots attack them to get money. We should honour them!

I always go to the Rememberance Day celebrations here. It's pretty important. It's not like I had family that fought in the wars, but I am a history major so it's important. I was finally able to buy a poppy today. I had to go downtown to get one though. They were not being sold on campus here.

War rememberance is in May here. I've done my 2 minutes silence this year. But good thread to start Goose.

It's in May here too - it's called Memorial Day - and we buy poppies too.
And yes, of course it's important to remember. If you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. That's a paraphrase of a famous quote - I forget who said it though.

Ours is May 4th because Holland was liberated on May 5th 1945.

Ive just spent an hour with a man showing me his war medals, he had them all redone and put on a display hanging (I dont know the right words) He was so proud and he is a real hero.

They all gather here on the beach by the war memorial and we all fall silent in rememberance.
