Cher
I guess you can find it on Kazaa or whatever |
It's on Cher's selftitled album from 1987, and written by you know who.
You can also find it on her greatest hits album(s) and I think on Richie's Undiscovered Soul 2cd set. |
Wasn't it written by both Jon and Richie?
|
According to the booklet it is written bei RS/JB/Desmond Child but I think it's mainly written by Richie since he plays it sometimes during his solo-shows introducing it with the words "I wrote it for an old friend of mine". We all know that he dated Cher back then.

And Rich splits paycheck with Desmond and Jon just because he is so kind.
It was written by DC/JBJ/RS. Methinks it doesn't sound like something Richie could write on his own. Just not his style. Niether could Jon. Desmond prob. could. I personally don't doubt that it's a collaboration. Who cares how Richie introduces it. He is a showman. Great song. I have it on Cher's greatest hits. (In general, not a good record BTW.) Also on her "I Believe" album. "I Believe" is a great record. I strongly recommend it. Realy. It's very good. |
Also, on I believe the song is done in dance style. But that version is better than the rock version.
|
I only know the dance-version and found it quite horrible.

Okay, if I follow your logic, then it doesn't sound like anything written by Richie, mainly or not mainly. I have Bon Jovi albums and his solo albums. Compare this song with anything recorded by Rich. It's a totally different level of songwriting. Very POP kind of songwriting. And way too professional.
If I could guess, I would say that lyrically this song was written mainly by Desmond. It sounds very Diane Warren/Desmond Child. You know, very "I don't wanna miss a thing". Written by a professional hit-maker, person who does this and only this for a living. I think Rich and Jon were the guys who changed 1-2 phrases there. They prob. did original rock arrangement with Desmond too. And I personally like dance arrangement better. |
Richie was not dating Cher at the time. We All Sleep Alone was recorded in 1987. Richie and Cher did not start dating until 1989. Richie didn't even meet Cher until they worked on that CD together.
Jon and Richie were brought into Cher's "comeback" recording because of Desmond Child's being one of the most popular songwriters of the time. He was brought in and his relationship with Bon Jovi brought them in. Cher had also met Jon previously when he worked at the Powerstation and felt comfortable working with him. Since Desmond, Jon and Richie had had some success with songwriting, they were considered a hot new trio of writers. The Bon Jovi band played on We All Sleep Alone, I Found Someone, and Bang Bang for that CD. Jon sang every word of We All Sleep Alone with her as a producer and Cher mimicked his singing style. Richie's saying he wrote that for a friend of his really makes it out to be more than it was since he'd never even met the woman prior to writing the song WITH Jon and Desmond. Becky |
