For those in the USA...

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Are you travelling? And what are you in charge of cooking? How much time do you get off work/school?

I'm going to my uncle's where we'll have the big family gathering. I'll probably make a sausage/wild rice casserole. It's going to be sad without Val this year though.

I have the whole week off, but my boss asked me to come in today. Not happening. I still haven't recovered from the bronchitis that I went to work with every day last week so we could meet our deadlines.

I am going out to eat with my mom, dad and husband. Our family is so small these days, there is no point in cooking. Maybe when I get into the new house that will change...

Then we will stop at the ol' mom in laws for dessert.

Not very exciting, I know.

I'm going home this afternoon. My school is closed until Monday. :D
Usually, all the relatives come to my house and my mom ends up cooking most of the food. Occasionally my grandmother will bring a potato so she doesn't feel so guilty. I'm not sure what we're doing this year though. I think my mom decided we're going to a restaurant because she is sick of doing everything. LOL

Turkey dinner at home. We don't have a lot of family here with us in Florida...just my aunt, Mike and myself. My family is in New Jersey and Mike's is in Georgia and Ohio. I love Thanksgiving dinner though, so we'll still go all out. Just on a smaller scale. My aunt makes a killer stuffing that I've been looking forward to for the last month.

We are going to a friends house for Thanksgiving dinner. I am in charge of the wine (of course - have picked out a dinner wine from a local winery on one of the islands plus a dessert wine from the same winery), green beans, and pecan pie.

Afterwards we'll probably take the dogs to the mountains to play in the snow (we have dinner at 1pm - to give us time to digest - lol).

We don't have family around, so spending the day with friends will be nice, though I am a bit put off, cause I like to get out the "special china" and set the table with the crystal and centerpiece, etc. Anyway, I'll probably make a special dinner at home on Friday.

I'll get off Thursday and Friday. The whole "days-off" game is just a great scheme if you ask me. If you are a professional you don't get overtime paid. We are chronically understaffed and this is the busy time of the year for us (though what time isn't?). So, we are working overtime the three days we are at work to meet all our deadlines so we can have off Thursdays and Friday. I worked Friday and Saturday last year just because I have too much work. Looks like it might happen again this year. Though, I'll have a talk with my boss shortly about it. In the end it is always me who picks up the pieces and lets others go home and takes the ultimate responsibility. Though, after the crappy bonus of last year, I am determined not to let that happen again.

Man we get screwed up here. We get Thanksgiving Monday off...that's it (I think it's Columbus Day in the States). I should have gone to school in the States :(
