Destination Anywhere: Opinions

What are your opinions about DA? I find it a solid album and is up there with my favorite albums of all time. I think when I first bought it that I was skeptical because I wanted it to sound a lot like Bon Jovi. When I listened to it I was dissapointed but have grown to love it. Songs that stand out to me are Queen Of New Orleans, Janie Don't Take Your Love To Town, Midnight In Chelsea, Every Word Was A Piece of My Heart, DA, and my favorite August 7th, 4:15. What is the meaning behind that song anyways? I never could find it and when I listen to it, I can't really understand.

Aloha !

Great album and I never get bored of it.

August 7, 4:15 is about the daughter of Jon's manager (?) who got killed by a hit and run. They've never found out who were the persons behind it.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

And I am guessing that it's the date and time of her death? Thanks Seb.

I don't know about that, could be a metaphor for it, but I think it is.

Anyway, the chord progression and solo in that song are about the same as for Rockin' In The Free World.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I agree with Seb. It is one of the few albums that I never get tired of listening too. :D Actually it has been packed away for the past two months, and I miss it. :(

I did notice that... I think I like the instrumentation for August 7th a little better. The orchestra and ending is what really makes the song. The opera singers and the car driving by. I totally can understand it now.

Whats your favorite song Sebastiaan?

I love it. It's different and exciting and something I can find new appreciation for no matter how long I've had it. The only song I don't like is Janie because the title is a ripoff of the Kenny Rogers song "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" so the chorus ruins what is otherwise an wonderfully written song. The verses are so personal I'm surprised Jon even released it, but the title... he pulled it out of the toilet he was sitting on while writing.

It's Just Me has my favorite guitar solo--I love the distorted sound the over-the-phone recording made. I love the introspection of the songs and that most of them were written without co-writers so you get a real feeling for who JON is and what he has to say on his own. There's a lot of heart and soul on this CD and it makes me look forward to another JBJ solo project.

I'm the same. Don't like this album at all - love Richie's solo stuff though. That's one of the things that I base my opinion on when I say that Richie's a better singer than Jon - don't get started, this isn't a Richie vs Jon thread. Just saying I don't like Jon's solo stuff.
