Do The Choices We Make In Life Effect Our Destiny?

well?

yeah sure.....
i mean, I'm always very afraid to take important decisions because i might screw up my entire life....I'm still afraid!

I believe that every thing you do has an affect on how your life turns out to be. It might not always be even the big decisions that effect it, but also the smallest of things...

But I'm kind of a fatalist about dying I suppose... For example, if someone dies in a car crash I find myself thinking "if only he wouldn't have gotten in that car in the first place... but then again, probably it would've been something else then". So I strongly believe that your actions make your life the way it is, but I suppose I think that death is something that is pre-defined. Hmh.

A "funny" conversation I had with my mum when she called me to tell me that my uncle's wife had died of bone cancer:

Mum: "Sometimes God is so unfair!"
Laura: "Mum, you aren't religious, why do you always bring up God just in situations like that, it's got nothing to do with God's will."
M: "You're right, I've always been a satanist."
L: "MUM!!! You're not a satanist!!!"
M: "No, I said a fatalist!"
L: "Oh, right, you scared me there for a second. I couldn't imagine you in a black rope sacrificing animals and burning candles..."

Yes, I believe that the choices we make determine your life. I think we are given a few options and each option will lead to other ones and so on. However I also believe in a certain amount of predestiny.. some things we don't choose.. but that is a long and difficult discussion!

well so far you have all kind of said what i have but the only two people on msn i spoke to about it well they both said exactly the same, they said its basically all determind from the moment you are born and so on, my answer to both was then "why do we have decisions in life?"

i was kinda in the mood to get into a major argument with both but held back i dont wanna start one in here but its kinda hard to determin a right 'answer' for this as there isnt one

Tashjbj 12-07-2003 06:57 PM

I think your basic path is mapped out, but I don't think everything is carved in stone. Otherwise why would we have free will? I think there are always options and chances to deviate from your chosen path, but if you choose correctly you will follow the path you were supposed to.

I don't believe in fate/destiny, because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.

I know it's something from The Matrix, but it is also what I believe. I think each choice we makes affects our future, but isn't that blatantly obvious? If you make a decision to do something it's bound to affect your future in some way.

Chances are it wouldn't have been someone else...but if they had been perhaps 10 seconds earlier or later getting into the car then it wouldn't have happened.

but that is all in the mind surely, when someone blames themselve for something like that as in most cases then they always use the terms "if i had been there not him/her" ah my examples always sound stupid so i hope you get what i mean.
