AOL/Windows Technical Support Needed

calling all techies, basically ice lol

was talking to someone in a hub i use and we were both bitching about AOL. he told me:

-you know you dont have to use the aol software crap to connect to aol ?

-u can connect thru a windows dialer instead of aol software

-means less modem strain and better peformance

apparently it wont do tons but it will give me abit more speed, only abit but i think its worth a try. now how the fook do i do it? lol

if its well technical ill leave it cos the last thing i wanna do is bust this puter up EVEN more than i have already  but if anyone knows it would be a nice help :)

cheers

well i'm not sure if this is what he's talking about, but AOL has a plan called Bring Your Own Access. Basically,if you have another service provider you can connect to AOL through that. That's what i do. I have a cable provider and i also have AOL using the BYOA Plan. It's 15 bucks a month (Canadian) for me.
To change the plan just go to Keyword Billing and you can change the plan. And it's easy to setup the connection on the starting up part, you'd just choose ISP/LAN connection.

again,i don't know if this is what he's talking about but it's the first thing i thought of.But if AOL is your only provider then i guess it doesn't work anyway. lol.

lol
actually i have no idea why i have aol.I only get on it a couple times a week. I have the net without it and there's only a few AOL specific boards/features that i go to. When i think about it,it's a waste of my time when i really don't need it. I got it years ago so i'd be able to participate in the bj aol chats. but they haven't done one in soo long.
if i ever get around to cancelling......
