the british monarchy
 

at the school debating society a couple of weeks ago we had a debate on whether to keep the monarcy or get rid of them. i voted get rid of them cos prince charles is a twat and theyre all a waste of taxpayers money and not democratically elected etc and all my mates and the lower 6th voted get rid of them but one of the pro-monarchists in the upper 6th had cakes with him cos it was his birthday and he used them to bribe the upper 6th to vote to not get rid of them and there were more upper-6ths than lower-6ths so they won. but i reckon if it wasnt for that we wouldve won cos the argument against the monarchy is better than the argument for them. i think we should get rid of them or at least take away some of their rights like the right to avoid inheritance tax for example, or make them live more like ordinary people, or just use them for tourism and turn the palace into a theme park or something. one of my teachers reckons we should put them all on big brother and have a "big brother royals special" and watch them argue in a room together and vote 'em off etc.
what do u people think?
id also be interested to see what foreigners think of them - do any of u republics miss having your own royal family or r u happy to get rid of them?

The English Monarchy should go, they're pointless. They do nothing and get loads of money for doing nothing. Unless of course they get out of the dark ages where they think they are one step below gods and then they can stay!

Quite a few Aussies are sick of having the Queen as head-of-state, and want to become a republic. The Queen can wake up one morning and just sack our PM on nothing more than a thought passing through her mind.

Yeah but she's not actually going to do that. Not because she doesn't want to, just because her brain is completely devoid of all thought processes!!!

i think they are a major tourim factor and therefore should be kept. but give them less money and let them work :P

Blatantly keep them, they are good for the economy. The tourism they bring in is huge.
