bush's interview

bush among others said; " "Saddam Hussein was dangerous, and I'm not just going to leave him in power and trust a madman," he said. "He's a dangerous man. He had the ability to make weapons." " (that's what i call political speech and smart arguments  ) That position, which the president expressed during an hourlong interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," re-emphasized the administration's belief that Mr. Hussein's brutality, instability and untrustworthiness provided cause enough to go to war. But the president also clearly stepped back from a longtime White House insistence that the Iraqi leader had stockpiles of banned weapons ready for use when the United States invaded the country in March. In response to a question by the interviewer, Tim Russert, the president conceded that it was "correct" that banned weapons had not been found in Iraq. Mr. Bush's comments came during a rare television interview, which he agreed to at a time when his approval ratings have fallen amid questions about the Iraq war, doubts about the economy, and a pummeling on both topics by Democratic presidential candidates. The president spent much of the interview defending his decision to go to war with Iraq, the intelligence on which it was built, and the results. He also defended his economic policies, saying that his $1.7 trillion in tax cuts were spurring growth and job creation, and that budget deficits would be brought under control. Mr. Bush also said that the job of the George Tenet, the director of central intelligence, was "absolutely not" in jeopardy, despite a swelling of controversy over the failure so far to find in Iraq the banned weapons that intelligence agencies believed were there. "I expected to find the weapons," Mr. Bush said, based on "the best intelligence possible." (...) :o Mr. Bush, who at one point referred to himself as "a war president," grew quiet when asked whether the Iraq war had been worth the loss of more than 500 American lives — even if banned weapons were not found. :o ""It's essential that I explain this properly to the parents of those who lost their lives," he said. "Saddam Hussein was dangerous, and I'm not going to leave him in power and trust a madman." "We are in a war against these terrorists who will bring great harm to America, and I've asked these young ones to sacrifice for that." " sure... tell this to the mothers who lost their children... overall it's like a 5 year old kid addressed to other 5 year old kids. is this the new 'kind' of politician? i hope not  |
