Why not?? Harrison Ford starred in the original Star Wars movies plus the Indiana Jones trilogy.

Fair point, but that's slightly different. Neither of them were famous film series when he first starred in them. There were no expectations, obviously no one was saying "I wonder who will play Han Solo / Indiana Jones"... cos no one had heard of them! But these are two characters that have been famous for over 20 years, and therefore I believe it wouldn't be right to have the same actor playing both of them
