Pierce Brosnan: Bond No More?
Take this with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed but quite a few sources like The Chicago Sun-Times and The Herald Sun are reporting that Pierce Brosnan won't be invited to play 007 in the 21st James Bond movie. An anonymous source at Eon Productions says, "We will go back to the first days of Bond -- maybe even his first mission. We want to attract more young fans and we think that having a younger Bond will help. Pierce felt Roger Moore did one too many Bond movies and he wants to move on while he is still considered alongside Sean Connery".

i last heard he was contracted to do one more and was /then/ giving up....

Heard that Jude Law was being considered as the new Bond - I'd rather see Robbie Williams - LOL

Pierce Brosnan is sooo good as Bond. It's just not his fault that only two out of four movies are really good (Goldeneye & The World is not enough). Bond 20 was... well, everything but not 007. Still I hope he does at least one more movie (or maybe two), because I don't know anyone who can fill his shoes. It seems like he has all the qualities of the former bonds. Just too many explosions.
But one thing won't change for me: The best bond ever was Roger Moore! (I know that not too many people share this opinion, but... he's just cool! And he didn't do one too many: A Few to a Kill has its definite moments). |
Well Pierce is my favourite Bond, and I've heard that he will do #21. After doing The World Is Not Enough he said that was his last, but then he did Die Another Day, and after that he said no more, so it could go on for a while.
He was actually aproached for the role in the 1980's, but felt he was too young at the time and refused it, hence how Timothy Dalton got it (personally I don't think he was as bad as everyone seems to think), but then he finally took the role with Goldeneye. I think he'll at least do another one, if not another 2 or 3. |

Orlando Bloom in talks to take over from Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond, claim UK tabloid newspaper... UK tabloid newspaper The Daily Star claim to have a hot exclusive today. They `reveal` that "Lord of the Rings" star Orlando Bloom is set to be the new James Bond. The rumour comes hot on the heels of Pierce Brosnan announcing on US television a few days ago that Bond 21 would be he fifth and final outing as 007. The paper goes on: "Film producers are desperate to land the young Brit hunk, who played elf Legolas in the Rings trilogy, as the next 007. And they are understood to have lined up meetings to get their man. A spokesman for Orlando, 27, said that "no decision has been made" about him taking the role. But a source said: "They are pulling out all the stops to get him". Well I hope it´s just another rumour. |
A Licence to Kill Orlando
I hope that's just a rumour too, as it is what I just came over to post:
Every day there's a ridiculous Bond rumour. Some at least seem vaguely believable or even good (eg. Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor) whilst others are plain ridiculous (Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones). Today comes one of the later. Digital Spy reports that film producers are apparently "desperate" to sign up the 27-year-old Orlando Bloom as a replacement for Pierce Brosnan, who retires from the role after the next movie. A source says "They are pulling out all the stops to get him. Orlando would be perfect for the part as he's got the looks, the charm, the accent and the high profile that would make Bond even more popular. They want to move away from the traditional image of James Bond - the older, suave gentleman - and believe a younger, trendier actor will attract new fans" If the producers are thinking along these lines, this would be the biggest (and arguably worst) shakeup of the franchise in its 42 year history. How in the world are we supposed to believe a guy this young is a retired naval commander turned super spy, and last time I checked the Brosnan films were by far the franchises most financially successful films - what new fans could you otherwise pull in? A spokesman for Bloom said that "no decision had been made" about the role. Chalk this up as wild rumour #87452986 |
I love Orlando Bloom, but I couldn't see him as James Bond. He just doesn't seem to have that special something that makes a James Bond. But noone will ever compare to Sean Connery when it comes to Bond. At least not in my book.
|
He is simply too young. They can't do that. I'm never against changes, but lately many changes for Bond made it worse, like Halle berry's part in Die Another Day or that unbelievable action scenes, which isn't funny anymore. Bond was always the best when he was cool. That last film wasn't cool anymore, but laughable. Orlando Bloom, which I like, would turn the role into something very scary.....

Bond 21 - 06-04-04 Michael Madsen says his neighbour Brosnan is done with Bond, and the next 007 is a young Australian... The "Kill Bill: Volume 2" press junkets have created another 007 story this week. Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Michael Madsen (NSA Chief Damian Falco in "Die Another Day"), has said the Brosnan is done with Bond, and the next 007 will be a young Australian. "Pierce lives right down the beach from me. Our kids play together, and he told me he doesn't want to do another one." The newspaper claims Madsen said he was told that Brosnan will be replaced with an Australian, although he did not know who and could not confirm the identity of the 6th 007. Madsen said he himself is interested in the new Bond because he was supposed to get a role in it. Now Madsen is wary. "Well, I was going to do it with Pierce but, now that Pierce is out of the Bond picture, I don't know what is going to happen. If (producer) Barbara Broccoli calls me up and says: 'Michael, I want you to be in the James Bond picture,' I'll probably go do it, but I'm not going to call her. "I don't know the new Bond guy. I've never seen anything he's done. I don't even know what he looks like. I can't remember the guy's name. I would have to feel like he's going to be a good Bond for me to want to do it." "You know, making a Bond film is not an easy thing to do. That's a heavy shoot, man. That's a long, long, big, big, heavy thing. The Bond thing is a tremendously gigantic production and the last one was hugely successful. "For Pierce, that was the fourth one that he did. He's tired, man. You know, he's James Bond. He doesn't have to do another one. Why would you? Why would you bother?" Orlando is british(?), so if this rumour is true, next Jimbo won´t be Orlando. Heath Ledger perhaps? |
I was thinking Heath too. :?

Brosnan Will Play Bond Again Irish superstar Pierce Brosnan will play suave superspy James Bond again - after patching up his feud with the Broccoli family. The Rules Of Attraction actor, 51, was thought to have lost the prestigious job after film executives deemed him too old to continue playing the sexy secret agent. But despite reports British hunks Clive Owen and Jude Law have been approached to replace him, insiders say Pierce - who had publicly slammed the Broccoli's for delaying the project - is still their number one choice for Bond. A source says Barbara Broccoli told employees she had forgiven Brosnan's recent outbursts, as they didn't compare to the friction between her father Cubby and original Bond Sean Connery. Broccoli reportedly said, "If you knew what my father went through with Sean Connery, that's nothing." So maybe this will end the speculations who´ll be the next Jimbo. |
Well from what I'd heard they wanted him for it, but his contract was up so he said he might not want to do it...and he's not too old, as Roger Moore and Sean Connery were both in their 50's (I think) when they did some of their final movies.

And just for the record, I never particularly liked Moore. IMHO (an opinion not much shared), Tim Dalton is the best Bond after Brosnan 8) Keep On Rockin' |
I read somewhere that Brosnan is not going to do his fifth bond role. :o And I´ve also heard they´ve considered Colin Farrel as bond.

Latest rumour is that Eric "Hulk" Bana will play the next Jimbo. So looks like that Brosnan is really quitting this time.
|
In a surprise choice, Eric Bana is set to become the next James Bond in the historic movie franchise. The news was first published in a British newspaper, and nothing has been confirmed.
Bana would follow in the footsteps of such actors as Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan, who last week said he would not reprise the role of Bond. Several actors have been rumoured to become the next James Bond, the most recent being Orlando Bloom. Bana, 35, has previously starred in Troy, Hulk, and his own comedy show in Australia, Eric. The next Bond movie is set to begin shooting later this year. The report said Bana was still negotiating with producers. |
Man I've heard stories about Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman, and Russell Crowe, all having been linked to JB.
They all seem to be Ostraylean. |
If Orlando Bloom becomes the next James Bond, I will actually eat my own face

well you can add me to the Roger Moore list- it's just that he was the Bond while I was growing up.
Pierce Brosnan is great- I like him from the days of Remington Steel. I almost fell of the chair when I Heard Hugh Grant was a possible candidate- dont' get me wrong I love his movies- but he doesn't have Bond material. I would go with Ewan Mcregor- (who was suggested too) loved him in star wars and Moulan Rouge - and he has that speacial something- call it charm if you like... |
