What book are you reading?
Currently I am reading this book by Antony Beevor:
http://www.antonybeevor.com/pictures/berlinnewmenu.jpg "Berlin - The Downfall 1945 is a terrible story of pride, stupidity, fanaticism, revenge and savagery yet it is also one of astonishing human endurance, self-sacrifice and survival against all odds." So, what book are you reading? Let's keep this topic clean, so that we could have good topic for good books. Teemu |

I'm reading "Le Cinquième Rêve" (The Fifth Dream) by Patrick Van Eersel.
It's about the author's thoughts about the origins and possible evolutions of mankind through different and more or less serious studies of our relations with dolphins, whales, orcas and other animals. Our differences, our communication (like playing music WITH them), the way we see/hear one another, etc... Seems weird but really interesting. Ponrauil |
I just finished "In a sunburned country" by Bill Bryson. A neverending laughter, I promise you that, even if you haven't been to Australia yet.
Now I'm undecided what to read next. Tricky situation. There's a book called "Sofies Welt" on the top of my list. I only know the german title, it might be translated, but I have no idea about the english title. It's a novel about philosophy which shall be very good. Or maybe Stephen King? I always wanted to start with the Dark Tower. Oh no, not tonight. I need something easy right now, I'm tired :-) Because he's so funny, I take another Bill Bryson book to end the day: "Neither Here nor There - Travels in Europe". Must be good. And the further I went away from it, the more I learned: Europe is such an amazing continent. Let's see what an American has to say... 8) Is it only me, or do you sometimes start with 2 or 3 books at the same time when you can't decide? |
I'm reading a book on Jane Austen and the Brontës by Spanish writer Espido Freire. But I do swear I read more things apart from the Brontës  At least the book is great!! :D
Btw, has anyone else in here read anything by Kate Atkinson? I read Human Croquet and loved it! Had to go to the bookshop and buy some more (well, one was a Christmas present actually). She's very, very original, amusing, deep, and her way of writing is superb :D |
And, Simon, I love Bill Bryson too. His Notes from a Small Island are hilarious AND true  Neither Here Nor There is good (I'm only half way through it, had to put it aside some time ago ang haven't picked it up since then).
Very funny guy... 8) |
I'm actually working on Gullivers travels for school... really dry reading, but the satire is interesting.
And I find that I start more then one book at a time if I can't decide what to read... haven't been able to read much for pleasure lately :( |
