What's the best Def Leppard album since Hysteria?
I think Adrenalise is probably my fave of the ones they have done since. I think their music was probably at its best with Hysteria, then it was a bit downhill from there. I wouldn't mind if they tried something was sounded more raw and unpolished cause they sound a bit like a boyband on some of the more recent stuff.
What album do you think has been their best of the last 12 years? |
Slang was undoubtably the best all around work and criminally underrated.
They had been trainblazing all the way up to Hysteria....a delicate balance between artists and commercialism was kept....that came to a screeching halt with Adrenalize...a poor sequel to Hysteria (and they had never done a sequel to anything before then) that came with exaggerations of everything Leppard...never mind that plenty of poor imitation bands had already ruined what was originally cool and fresh. The band themselves had to go and parody themselves. They had the spotlight on them still so the album did fairly well...as did the tour....people went...had a good laugh as they said farewell to hair metal, which Leppard obviously had embraced, and then promptly wrote the band off as having nothing fresh to offer. They showed promise with Retroactive and then got back on track with Slang..unfortunately...since they squandered their spotlight with Adrenalize...no one gave a sh** and never heard it. Critics often misunderstood it..attempting to brand it as an attempt at grunge (none to be found) and dimwitted fans who thought Leppard was about Pour Some Sugar On Me couldn't handle it. After one listen, I was a believer again. Adrenalize had put me off the band that much. The only good thing about Adrenalize was they began to play live even better. Adrenalize remains at the bottom of my CD heap, where it deserves to be while Slang is among my desert island discs. Euphoria was more forgiveable..despite it's obvious swipes from past work, they also continued to offer fresh material mixed in with old ideas. X, like Bon Jovi's Crush...features dumbed down lyrics and an overall sound that borrows from a trend that was on it's way out when the album hit stores. It's saving grace is Scar and Kiss The Day. So Slang it is. |
Which album was released in the early 90's and had, have you ever needed someone so bad and lets get rocked on it?? That one.

Well, I was gonna say none, but I guess the best thing they've released since Hysteria would have to be Retroactive... the songs featuring Clark are damn good :)

Definately Sl@ng!
It's a damn shame how underrated it was both with critics and Def Leppard fans. I liked the way they were going with Sl@ng and wish they continued with a similar formula from then on, instead of taking a step back with Euphoria. (I've not heard it yet, but aparently it is typical Def Leppard) However I was impressed with X when I bought it in 2002, as IMO kinda blended slightly the typical Def Leppard sound with the experimentational Sl@ng sound. Sl@ng also had a much more laid-back sound and the songwriting was the best I'd ever heard from the band instead of just the cheese-metal lyrics as from previous albums. I hope when they release their next album (which I've heard is due sometime this year or next) that they do a similar album to Sl@ng and perhaps incorporate a more modern rock sound. |

Oh yea, along with Slang, this is the best song Def Leppard have ever released since Hysteria and is easily the greatest rock ballad ever! I love it :D |

I'd probably feel the same way about X as you do if it wasn't for a good chunk of the lyrics and some of the song titles (You're So Beautiful, Let Me Be The One, Girl Like You.) Also, the fact that two songs were completely written by outsiders bothered me. Covers are one thing..but brand new material? We know they haven't run dry creatively..so there really was no excuse and Long Long Way To Go is way overrated. |

I prefer more substance in my songs which is why I list those three over those 4...but collectively they make up the better part of the album. |
Vault. ahem wait ....Slang.
