School/placement abroad * UPDATE *
Owkee here is the deal ... I changed my mind already for 100 times so I could use some advice ...
As I will be in my 3rd and last year after this one at school I have the chance to go abroad ... I think it's a great adventure, oppurtinity and chance of a lifetime to get some life-experience, depend on yourself, make new friends, learn about other cultures and other ways of teaching ... So if you ask me if I want too, I say yes for 100% ... But of course I wouldnt ask anything like this if there weren't some problems ... The first problem is money ... It is quite a lot and my parents are doubting if they can ... They will think about it and as soon as I made a decision for myself they will see if it will work yes or no ... SO money is the first big problem. The 2nd problem is Im scared I want to do too much ... I mean I have to take classes for the language of that country, have to do placement (in Belgium) when the other students have lessons which means I will do exams from stuff I have to learn myself as I will not have those lessons ... I also have to make my thesis which means I should collect all my info and stuff like that beFORE I leave which is January-february ... So I really wanna do it as I'm totally up for it, you can choose almost any country in Europe ... but at the other side Im scared I will risk too much at school and fail my last year because of it .. We also have a second option which is placement and school for 1 month ... That should be a solution for all problems as the money isnt such a prob anymore, it's not that long, I don't have to do placement when the others have lessons ... but also on this there is a another side ... You can't choose the country (It's between Germany, Netherlands, Lithuania, Estionia or Spain) and there are only 7 people who can go ... which means there is a chance I have nothing at the end ... With the placement of 3 months it's unlimited. SO it's really hard and I change my mind almost every hour ... so could use your advice !!!!!!!!!!! I have to give my papers within 2 weeks :? Thanx :) |
Well as someone a lot older, I would say go for it. The only things I regret as I have aged are things I DIDN"T do - not things I did do. If it turns out that there isn't enough money - at least you tried. In my opinion that's a lot easier to accept that not trying at all.

My sister-in-law is pregnant with her second child. She was just saying last night how she wished she'd made more of the time she had to herself before she got married. Now, of course, it'll be a wait until the kids are much more grown up before her and my brother have any real freedom again. So yeah, I say at least do one, as you don't want to regret having not doing it when you had the chance.

I said YESS!!! ofcourse, just do what you can I mean your young now, I wanna do a year Highschool In America, or something like that! SO JUST GO :D

i didn't understand very well your plans but there is a programme for university students called erasmus. students can choose the country they want to go and all expenses are paid from your university (in your country) and it's for one semester. all you have to do is pass two or three subjects and drink :P .
but i think what i just said is quite irrelevant with what you want, right? :P |

Go for it Vallie. I swear you will regret it so much if you don't. I am so glad I did and there are so many more benefits from doing this then you have listed.
I remember we got a scholarship for our first year, that you can apply for, something European anyway that everyone can get. Money should not be the reason why you don't go, I know it's the practical one, but it really would be a shame. Do it! You will not regret it. You're only young once and this is the chance of a lifetime. |
Hey,
Advise from someone who is regrettinh she never went after Highschool. Don't ask me for the reason I say you better go honey if you have the chance, you will regret it if you don't go. |
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity Vallie!! If you have the chance to go, take it! Try your hardest to go! I don't think my chances are high to be able to study abroad (my choice of major limits this). I don't think many people get a chance to experience other cultures, so you should take full advantage of it! I'd love one day to visit the UK or the various countries in Europe - but it'll never have the same atmosphere as a student, I'd just be another tourist.
Take it, Vallie! Try your hardest to experience new things! |
I spent a month in Europe two summers ago taking a high school history course. It was expensive, but its something I will never forget. The experience was incredible. I hope to spend a year abroad in my third year of university, either studying history or a language.
Best of luck with you decision! Stephanie |
