If Bon Jovi were starting today- would they be a success?
I stole this from the Bruce board about Bruce.
If Bon Jovi were starting in today's musical climate, would they make it big? Would hard work and talent win in the end despite the different climate of today? Would the label have given up on them after 7800? Would radio and MTV play them? And of course if they were all young today what kind of music would they even be making? All food for thought. |
I don't think they would be a succes if they start these days with Runaway. The kids from now don't l;ike that kind of music. For example the new fans some of them don't know the songs from the early years. I think personal then they would have to make songs like it's my life and evryday more pop. They might have a chance.
Well if they were young these days I thin they would be a boyband. Those are succesful anyway. Looking good would make them succesful. |
Slippery would have been a hit never the less because it's a great pop/rock record, and the new generation also love Prayer/Bad Name because they are very attractive songs. I dunno whether the first two albums would have been a hit though. The record company may have dropped them after Farenheit. Who knows?

Interesting!
I think with the first albums, they wouldn`t made it, but after SWW and KTF they would have been a huge succes. Even these days everybody knows that songs and likes them. And about the label giving up? I don`t thin so, there are so many labels trying to get the best artists, and they know talent when they see it...I guess. So, conclusion ...I think they would be a hit nowadays, and their looks would helpfull too :P |
Good question! I think if they started with SWW,they may be because the songs are hard not to like. With the market today, the question I can't figure out is would MTV play them because they wouldn't fit in. They could start another metal explosion of hair bands today if they were just starting-ya never know. Most of the hair bands of the 80's got big after Bon Jovi came out(with a few exceptions). Whether they like it or not,I agree that their looks would help quite a bit. I think they could be a success, but not sure if they would be as big. Today's kids are just so different than when I was a teen. As far as their first 2 albums,I love em a lot,but I don't think they would cut it in today's market. SWW would have a great chance though. I guess a lot of it boils down to what MTV and radio decides is going to be in  There are some descent rock bands out nowadays, but their style is different than Bon Jovi's. They have a style all their own. Something about them is different.

Difficult question but I tend to say, not they wouldn't. Simply because the record company wouldn't give them a chance. They would loose their record deal after the second album (at least, probably earlier). These Days the record companys don't take the time to build up a band and give them 3 chances until success. If your 1st album doesn't hit the top 10 you're out.

I don't think they would. Pop sells way more at the moment. Like some decent bands that start nowadays, they can't go further cause tv, radio, everything just promotes pop. well mostly
|
No, they wouldn't. Time and place were right back then, not today.
And Bad Name or Prayer are liked today because they are classics. SWW wouldn't do anywhere near as good today as it did in 86. |
IMO, yes. They would have found a way. If you ask me, this hair band from Sayreville, NJ didn't have a good chance to become huge in 1982 either. They've got drive and determination. That's what made them huge.
There is no way they would have created Bon Jovi, 7800 and SWW if they'd started out today. Their music would have sounded totally different. I don't know how different but different. Prob. something like Nickelback. |
